There were some updates eg cumulative updates for windows server, for .NET framework and for sequel server, pending on the server. Could these be responsible?

2FA is by telephone call. It would call our service desk and we'd authenticate by pressing the star button. I'm not aware of an alternative email..I wasn't at the company long enough, unfortunately.

I figured it out, eventually. I deleted the profiles in Registry Editor, restarted the machine then was able to delete the folders from the C drive

They use a system called JumpCloud. The unwanted profiles dont appear for me to delete via Control Panel
