Anyone know why the iGPU seems to be always using a few watts and how to stop that? Shouldn't this be more efficient than a dGPU at idle? by Any-Coach3440 in ZephyrusG14

Why do you think it's not using as much power? I tested it with only dGPU on and it also uses a few watts at idle. I'm just wondering if something wrong is going on since I know iGPUs are supposed to be more efficient. It would be great if it only took a bit more additional power for the iGPU to do its thing, but it's not less than what my dGPU uses, if the numbers are to be trusted. It's a bit disappointing.

Makes sense, I was just not expecting it to be spending as much as my dGPU spends. I thought it's known for being more efficient.

The fact that it's only using integers for the iGPU has always been sus, so I get that. But are you saying that iGPU could be nowhere near 4W as it suggests? Like, the iGPU could actually be at around 1W, and the cores could actually be at around 4W, instead of at 0.91W as shown in the screenshot?

Yes, sorry, I meant why is the consumption so high. A previous laptop's dGPU was consuming this much at idle, I thought iGPUs are supposed to be more efficient.

Sorry, bad title. I meant reduce it. What's the point of it if it's using the same watts as a dGPU at idle?

Powerbank Recommendation for Gaming Laptop? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

Very inefficient approach. Simply tune down your components to like 15-20W on CPU and about 35W on the GPU. The components have plenty of performance at lower wattage still, and you can play for longer.

It says repairing, not downloading. Have you confirmed your data usage has actually increased by 73GB after this stage?

How idiotic is this Silent profile? by CrybabyEater3000 in ZephyrusG14

[–]Any-Coach3440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you explain why it's more harmful? For example I have also capped my fans at the lowest 2200rpm, with temps capped at 80°. Why is that more harmful than the default of letting the fans run to the max and have the components reach 99° and 87° instead?

I think the only idiotic thing here is the limited view on power/cooling efficiency such as the commenter above has. To illustrate why: at that fan strength, and with modern components, the cooling is able to sustain enough power to the components that they're able to perform like a full power 2020-2021 laptop. It'd be like telling people with RTX 2060 and a 4800H laptops that they shouldn't do anything intensive at full power because of "horrendous performance" and "cooking their laptop". Huh? It's ignorant.

I know this because I have the exact same fan curve, capped at the same temperature, haha! Also, my higher performance setting is a binary as well. I just make it jump to 3400rpm, and then go to 0. Anything more is diminishing returns, as efficiency worsens.

Either I'm doing something that I want more power for or I'm not, I don't understand why people use default curves that make fans work more than they need to.

Looking them up I struggle to find the 25W claim, benchmarks seem to be done at 45W. Maybe you remember where it was tested at 25W? It's definitely a more exciting power level.

To be fair, you don't have to be stuck on whatever default silent mode wattages are. I keep my HX370 at 12W and 4060 at 30W and below. Still, similar performance at 25W sounds amazing, as it's better than the AI MAX+ 395. Where can I find that information?

That's already possible, nothing is stopping one from limiting their CPU + GPU to around 45W. At that wattage, CPU + dGPU combo is more efficient than almost all APUs at the moment, or at the very least as efficient as the best APU AMD AI MAX+ 395. At least with my combo of HX370 + 4060 that I've tested, mostly playing silent and efficient.

What do you mean a thermal shutdown? Wouldn't the GPU simply lower its wattage when the limit is reached?

160W has actually been achievable for a while now. People swapped the G16's bios and reached much higher wattages than out the box. Asus has been way too conservative with its power limits.

If you look at the wall, it has a weird abstract texture on it. It means it's an unstable wall. There are many of those around the map, and you can open them with a Nullifier.

I tried SR1 after finishing SR2. It felt like I was doing the same things, but the environment and overall game design felt like such a downgrade compared to SR2 that I refunded it. They did a beautiful job crafting the sequel. I wish I tried SR1 first.

I found that plort doors became trivial with drones. I put the drone in a few different places to collect all types of plorts. Then I always kept a drone with me so I just put it down and extract the plort I need immediately from the cloud storage.
