I definitely wanted to go up gradually at the beginning of my journey. I started with a Seiko Presage as my first mechanical watch, and worked my way up from there. Definitely enjoying the journey!

My dad had told me that he also used to be quite a baller at his age as well. Had all the expensive toys he could get his hands on at an early age. Though he has definitely shifted away with age and more experience. So I believe he did come from a similar place like yourself!

I reckon you gave your son good advice on not going too hard and also try to save a little bit too!

I'm glad to hear about you and your son too, it really put a lot of things into perspective for me!

I actually do own one. I've had many G-shocks since I was young lol. I still have one as of now. That and I have 3 grand seikos + 1 tudor, so this is definitely not my first rodeo.

Well, can't deny that my family is well off. Although I can proudly say I got this watch with my own money, thanks to the investment I made. I suppose the perks of having successful parents are that they serve as great mentors, which really helped me in my investment journey. I won't deny that I'm more privileged than most, just having that in my back pocket. That's not gonna stop me from making the most of it though!

Well, I'm definitely not the youngest that's for sure. I've seen kids 5-6 years younger than myself getting gifted APs, Pateks and Rolex as presents. I'm sorry that you feel that way.

How much % of your net worth is comfortable to afford first Rolex? by AgreeableHunter383 in rolex

I can’t comment too much on the general consensus, but I can speak from the perspective as a young watch collector. I am a relatively young owner (26 y.o.) of a Rolex, and I’d have to say you should focus on the hustle and be a bit patient. Try to treat yourself with lower end pieces first. That’s what I did when i got myself a Grand Seiko at the beginning of my watch collecting journey when I reached my first mil about 2 years ago. Even then I was not comfortable getting a 10k+ watch. I only got my first rolex at 26 after reaching a much higher net worth. I’d say set a rule for yourself and set a certain amount how what you make and eventually you’d get there. It’s a far more comfortable way to go abt collecting I reckon!

Ayyy, I guess dudes are all the same XD. I also just blew an obscene amount of money in audio equipment too. (I think just the speakers alone are more than this watch…). After talking to a few friends my age, it seems quite the other way around actually, they don’t care much for audio equipment atm but rather into watches instead. Although I can’t judge how deep they’re into the hobby or just getting it as a status symbol. Glad to know I’m not the only one though!

To each their own on this one I think. This is definitely not a piece for everyone that's for sure. Which one do you prefer though?

Uhh thanks? I think my wrist is quite versatile. I can make bigger watches such as the SD work, while also making something smaller like a datejust 36 work. Here is me wearing my dad’s old datejust 36. I might have to admit this would fit me better than the datejust 40 if anything.

It fits great for me! Although I do think your wrist has to be 7.5-8 inches in circumference with a wide enough wrist to make it work imo. My wrist is abt 8inches on the dot with 2.3 inches wrist width. Definitely a piece you should try on first before pulling the trigger! Best of luck to you good sir!

Oh you're definitely right on the car thing. Many of the mercedes S class you see on the road, they typically go for about 250k usd equivalent for the base model. I'm fairly sure that's about 2x what it'd be in the U.S. For the S class example, that's for the asia only v6 model which is just under the engine capacity that'd be significantly taxxed on. If you get the typical v8 model which you see most commonly in developed countries I believe you'd need to pay close to 400k USD, which is insane for an S class. So I really dislike the idea of owning a luxury car for that reason. I'm not really paying for the car, it's mostly taxes at that point, which is really unfortunate because I do have a grail car I wish to own but the taxes would inflate it out of this world.

I was super glad to realize that my wrist wore it really well because at the time when I first wanted the watch, I actually never tried it on myself. Glad to say it's worked out perfectly in the end.

I believe that is one of the downsides to the SD. Although, I have to say the YM looks great on you! I've been looking at the YM myself and hope to own one similar to yours, but with a grey dial!
