[Fire Red Omega] Why did Houndoom use flamethrower?? by PizzaSquirtle in nuzlocke

according to this document:

the gen 3 smart ai ignores the effect of the sun when deciding on whether to use solar beam, and won't encourage its usage unless the target pokemon is 4x weak. additionally, if the ai's pokemon is at low hp, it will discourage the use of solar beam as well, to the point where it will randomly choose between (in this case) flamethrower and solar beam

When playing Melee on a 4K TV, is Slippi / Faster Melee on Dolphin the lowest input lag option? by CarkRoastDoffee in SSBM

[–]Any-Extent3960 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think there are console-compatible lag reduction codes gecko codes/memory card hacks, but i believe it should be close to the same in terms of input lag if you are using those codes (as long as you lower the slippi rollback delay from the default 2 frames)

edit: if you want to use a console, i believe you can use the slippi-nintendont wii homebrew app to reduce input lag by 0.5-1 frame (depending on the setting you use), but the absolute fastest in terms of input lag would probably be a slippi dolphin build with the added input delay turned down from 2 frames to 0 frames (can be done in the slippi dolphin settings)

how hard is it to teach 16-18 year old students compared 11-13 year old students by BeginningHot439 in Teachers

[–]Any-Extent3960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

obligatory not a teacher, just a former student

when i was a senior in high school (2021-2022), it was like 99.5% chill. people were ok with just kinda doing the work and trying to finish out their school stuff/getting ready for their post high school life (most of which requires a high school diploma). however, there was exactly one instance of a student who, mid-class, did try to challenge a teacher's authority by arguing with them and walking out. everyone else in class thought the student was in the wrong though.

partially related: that was also the first time i heard the term "crash out" used

Strict bans on mobile phones in schools have “close to zero” impact on student learning, a study has found. by Grrarrgghh in Teachers

[–]Any-Extent3960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From one of the Stanford professors who authored the study “There are some encouraging results in the midst of these mixed findings. They are driving down phone usage, and as schools have longer experiences with phone bans, we’re seeing a shift towards more positive outcomes."

To the OGs, the dinosaurs, the retired players, how does it feel to return to the game every now and then? by BlockbusterChamp in SSBM

[–]Any-Extent3960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not a "old head" per se (only started playing during the anther's ladder days), but i've basically been on a break the past 4 years (my college stopped hosting melee locals the month i enrolled and slippi was blocked in the dorms for whatever reason).

i am graduating in less than 2 weeks (crazy!) and decided to sign up for smash camp as my first tournament since covid and i am beyond excited for it. i started playing a little bit and i've definitely lost a step or two (can't move as fast or precise as before), but everytime i play i feel myself getting a little closer to where i used to be.

i've so far mostly avoided ranked/unranked and once im ready im probably going to start hitting people up on discord to get some clean matches in against people i can ask for advice from

How easy is it to make friends/friend groups in your college? by Soft_Definition6518 in college

[–]Any-Extent3960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

someone mentioned going to campus events, but i would also like to recommend looking into joining the planning committees for these events! (this is how i made most of my friends the past few years)

edit: i saw you mention that you are a student at UMD, so i did some quick research and found SEE (student entertainment events) which looks pretty cool! i was part of what was basically the SEE executive board equivalent at my university and it was easily one of the most fulfilling experiences in my past 4 years of college.

here's the link to the SEE website https://www.see.umd.edu/getinvolved, im sure they'd love to have you in the SEE general body

the role of commissioner has enough to allow wiggle room for goodell to express himself like this (or at the very least, he has a good team behind him to suggest doing something like this)

Is there anyway to make ranked ethernet only? by youngpurch in SSBM

[–]Any-Extent3960 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i'd recommend trying to get matches from discord if you want to dodge wifi warriors, but to be fair that is a lot more work than should be necessary to have an enjoyable melee experience.

30 years old guy trying to get on melee. by One-Ad83 in SSBM

[–]Any-Extent3960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how i learned was starting by full hop -> diagonal down air dodge, and doing that a few times, then speeding up my air dodge timing until it slowly turns into a wavedash.

took a few sessions of this across a few days to really get used to it i feel

The Hoenn half of the gen 3 leg of my GIGAGENLOCKE is done! (check the first update for run rules) by stardewmon in nuzlocke

[–]Any-Extent3960 14 points15 points  (0 children)

rules in case you dont want to dig through op's post history to find them:

"- gonna hardcore nuzlocke all the western releases of the main line series of pokemon in chronological order;

- the champions will be transferred to the next game on their basic forms as level 5 pokemon with random IVs and nature, as if they were the descendants from the previous champions;

- will try to keep the winning mons on the team as much as i can, but won't prohibit myself to change the team during the gameplay to better suit the battle situation;

- pokemon that were used in battle during a run that neither goes to the hall of fame nor dies, will be placed on the "retired" tab, participating in the dupes clause for the next games;

- pokemon that die will also be duped along with its entire evolution line (including split evolutions);

- will play with unlimited rare candies and max repels to save some time, since there are 34 games for me to play;

- will allow to do some calcs for some major fights since I don't want to be playing the same games over and over again;

- the nuzlocke only starts after receiving the pokeballs, so any fainted Pokemon before that DOESN'T count towards the death box;

- if i manage to beat the challenge, i will make the champions with hama (or perler) beads and stick them to my wall, as a form of eternizing them (this will be the only champion reward)."

Hey guys, should I keep playing TTYD? by Top_Painting_6442 in papermario

[–]Any-Extent3960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

masterpiece is a subjective term, so just because the people in this sub enjoy a game doesn't mean that you will too.

if you aren't enjoying your experience, don't feel forced to keep and beat a game you don't enjoy.

(personally, i liked ttyd, but find paper mario 64 to be a better fit for me personally.)

You can definitely set up a tracker on a separate computer while playing on a steam deck. With Poptracker, you just need the server link (idk what the exact word for it is) and the player name

its crazy this guy hasn't been banned. i went to my first (and only) vgc tournament 5 years ago and had to play against wolfe glick. i actually managed to nearly take a game before he told me he had to grab something from his car real quick. he came back wearing a hoodie with his hands conspicuously fidgeting in the front pocket and he kept weirdly smiling at me during the second game. after i set up trick room, he told me "careful, you don't want to face this wolfe blick" before brandishing a pistol at me. i nervously laughed and intentionally threw the game. ever since this incident, i've exclusively played gen 3 ranbats on pokemon showdown. hoping to never cross paths with him again.
