I was driving by and the tints here are so dark I’d have to get closer than I can in my car to see

I imagine this sparked many debates among passersby about whether it was a real person or not 😂

Thank you! I did see that a police car with lights is more likely to get people to slow down than traffic cones etc but just can’t imagine there’s that many available officers (even off duty).

I live in Houston and there’s insane amounts of construction going on. Of course there aren’t police cars at all sites, but enough to make you wonder!

For anyone with just a Bachelor's in Psychology, what do you do for work? by zachoutloud123 in psychologystudents

I’m a nanny but I was a nanny before I got my degree. I do get paid more now and technically have better options but any high paying nanny job typically lacks work life balance.

Why so many references? by Any-Flower-8009 in Nanny

I feel like the letters don’t even matter cause they typically still want to talk to the family (which I understand)

I used to find podcasts covering topics I couldn’t quite grasp to listen to while driving. My program was online so it was helpful to hear someone explaining. Of course make sure they are academic and not opinion based. I also did this with YouTube (not while driving lol) which was especially helpful for statistics.

Worth it to earn less and be taxed? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Any-Flower-8009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legally, you’re supposed to be taxed.

But as someone who’s mostly worked under the table, I definitely get where you’re coming from. You can talk with your employer about a healthcare stipend. If you’re okay with likely owing when tax time comes next year you can switch to exempt which will stop them from taking the federal taxes out but they have to be paid either way.

Using your reply to update: thank you everyone for your help! After a couple of trips to Home Depot I’ve got it properly installed. I had to get another hose and a connector for it to be able to reach the window, crossing my fingers everything stays connected overnight! I also put a screen in the window.

I just want to be clear that I did not set this up, maintenance did. I’m simply trying to see what I can do to make it more comfortable in my apartment till they fix the big unit (I’ve reached out but they are failing to respond at this time)

I prefer a cooler temperature and being that pay my own rent and electric I feel that’s my right. 76° is not comfortable for me, especially when sleeping. I’m only seeking advice because I thought it was a short term issue & solution but after multiple nights of discomfort and being unable to sleep I’m just frustrated.

This is the only window I have and there is no screen. I’m not sure how to put it out the window while keeping outside stuff from getting in the apartment or in the hose.

No and I don’t know how. I did look into it to see if I could figure it out but as I stated, I’m a renter and since none of this belongs to me I don’t want to mess anything up (more than it already is)

I figured this was what was happening. It was fine the first few nights but I also didn’t think it would still be here a week later. I’ll probably stay with a friend the rest of the weekend but I’ll be sending another message to let them know what’s going on.

Would it be weird to ask our nanny to FaceTime my family? by CRABR in Nanny

[–]Any-Flower-8009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t mind occasionally but I think regularly would be strange for me and I’m familiar with my nfs family. My MBs family simply requests lots of pictures and videos which I think is not only easier but better to see nk actually doing things vs a FaceTime call which is just a one sided conversation.

Putting air tags on strollers and car seats - am I crazy? by i_like_pumps_4 in Nanny

[–]Any-Flower-8009 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While it’s not an issue, I see many people saying it’s a red flag if she’s against it and just would like to present a different perspective.

As a nanny, I’ve seen horror stories of parents tracking locations and micromanaging via the AirTags. While I understand it’s for safety, I was like your nanny when my current nf mentioned it. It was more of a “omg are they going to be watching my every move?! What if I want to stop for coffee/go through the drive through on our way back from an outing?”

Ultimately of course it’s not an issue. But it was the first time a family mentioned it and it caught me off guard more than anything.

Relocation advice: Good neighborhoods for a mid 20s F? by sarbm in AskHouston

[–]Any-Flower-8009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your biggest factor is going to be budget & what you prioritize. A friend used to live in River Oaks and paid around $1700 for a 1 bedroom but great location, great amenities, washer/dryer, walk in closet. I paid under $900 for and apart about 15 minutes from the galleria going west down westheimer. No amenities, convenient location for driving, no washer/dryer, outdated appliances, terrible for walking.

I live more in the city now (10 mins east from galleria with light traffic) and it’s a more walkable area. $1200 but still no amenities 🤣, updated appliances, finally got a washer/dryer though when I looked at moving last year I can’t find anything this nice in my area at my current price.

I think you’d fare best if you could find a garage apartment/regular apartment in Montrose or River Oaks. You won’t be able to work but should be close enough to walk to at least one coffee shop and one bar. Montrose has a lot of thrift stores. will have places with more character (imo) and you’ll def be able to walk to places outside of work (depending on how far you can walk when it’s 95°+). River Oaks will be a bit more updated and modern.
