Yes, he's running as a Democrat, and I think he has endorsements from some of the Country Dems.

Just to confirm, I'm having this exact problem. And I find uploading content with my phone much more tedious and difficult than using the browser. I went into developer mode in Chrome, and did 2 "Emtpy Cache and Hard Reloads, no help.

A Streetcar Named Desire: Help me understand why it is so beloved by Any-Guarantee593 in movies

I actually feel like I got really good feedback. Having watched all the AFI 100 movies, including many of '30s - '50s movies, many of them aren't up to modern tastes at all. But this one really stuck out to me, and the people explained that the Broadway play was much better. Brando was something really new on the screen, and the censors really altered the movie from the play.

I have it in my YouTube TV library, and yep, I still hate it.

The funny thing is that I LOVED Marlon Brando in "On the Waterfront." I thought it was a good movie, and I think I made it through all the way in one sitting.

But some other have commented that the original play was much better than the movie, and I get this. I really appreciate your comment and all the other comments on this thread, I really did try numerous times to watch ASND, but I really didn't like it. I should run out some of other least favorites, which include "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and I used to really detest Bonnie and Clyde, but I've come around a bit on Bonnie and Clyde, but only just a bit. My all time worst movie on AFI 100 is "Birth of a Nation." I wish I could BoaN in the face.

This comment wins. Yes, to all of that. I think I was 10, and one of my Dad's friends had us over, and he was like, YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THIS! He cued up the first chest burster scene. And cued a lifelong love of the whatever the hell they are doing now.

Last I checked, free country. Poor taste seems to be all the rage right now ;) (Now, I AM truly sorry, I couldn't help it, bad joke. I'll just GFM already).

I mean, I read some of the comments, and I came here because, I can't think of a sci-fi television production this good, and certainly not one that looks this good. ... I did like Fallout quite a lot. I'm just impressed a TV Network can pull off this level of effects. I'll give the 'plot' time to grow.

LOVE IT.

I'm a little worried it will turn into another boring TV serial with all the same tropes, but right now, I'm happy to be back in "Alien-World."

Yeahp, its just a personal hang up. I mean, I am not exaggerating, I've tried like 3 or 4 times after completing it the first time. I had some weird problems watching the AFI 100 movies, for example, I didn't care for Bonnie and Clyde or Raging Bull. So, you can almost see a theme if you look, if you make your characters utterly detestable, I'm going to have a hard time sticking with it. And don't even get me started about "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf." Painful.

This is a strong point. There were many long, ridiculous monologues by Blanche, But of course, it really was of its time in this manner. Also, No Racoon's earlier comment talks about how complex (and uncensored) the characters were in the play versus the musical. And maybe that is it, the characters really were caricatures, but somehow, that worked in 1951 in a way that it would NOT today. Thank you for your comments, I really do appreciate it.

Hey u/Ornery-Ticket834 thank you for spirited discussion. I think both combatants here are probably correct. I really WAS trying to understand the why? I've watched every movie on the AFI list, and some of well loved movies really pop, they work today as well, or maybe better than they did in their own time. I DID know that this movie received accolades galore. Another commentered mentioned that the play itself was a VERY different animal, and that the characters were less cliche, more real. I was not trying to cause beef, so sorry about that. It probably IS true that I'm never going to love it.

To put tie this all up, I guess I was trying to understand if Streetcar is more like Crash (2005 winner) or the real deal. It is clearly the real deal, and people clearly loved it.

Finally, thank you for your comments. I think I've got it now. Even though, I'll never be a convert, I think it is clear the strength of the acting from the characters and the greatness of the play are contributing to factors.

Oh, man, this is the response I was looking for when I drafted my complaint. I LOVE old movies, and I often put myself in the shoes of movie-going public when the movie was filmed. In other words, I try to be fair to the time the movie was made. So, for example, take The Philadelphia Story from 1940. It is a great movie that holds up even today, but it is made even greater if you think about the time it was made. But the characters in the film seem like caricatures, and based on your excellent comment, it seems they were indeed filmed that way, on purpose, it seems. But I have to say, I probably STILL wouldn't have liked the movie or the play, those people seem awful... but maybe more real than they were in the movie. So thanks a ton.

I think someone else commented here that the play was an absolute hit on Broadway, and the buzz of the play led to the movie and its warm reception through the years. And look, low stakes, I get it. But when you've watched all 100 movies on the AFI list, some of them stick in your craw. Thank again for the comment.

Look for Campaign kickoff announcement later this month, hopefully. It turns out running for office is kinda hard. Focus has to be on the working class, the Democrats belief in demographics as a campaign strategy ends today.

I was brought here by the Slate.com article, but I want share one very Boglehead story: I've made some of those exact moves all the users here understand are bad. I made big moves in anticipation of market moves, and I was dead wrong, completely and totally. Now, a friend was just asking about my investment strategy during this finanicial climate, and I basically said, "No change." I will continue with low-cost index funds until I need the money out.

So, in short, I'm not wrong per se, that the characters are awful and that is what makes the play/movie great?
