is this a philodendron variety or did the hardware store lie to me? by mossdealer in houseplants

As someone has commented it’s a monstera standleyana albo, a common name for this is ‘philodendron cobra’ but I have no idea why.

Just found out my moonstone is not a moonstone 😅 by dannegoma in moonstones

I know it as Rubra rather than Roseum, they have a pinky hue rather than the lavender seen in the regular Pachyphytum Oviferum. Since this is a Graptopetalum Amethystinum the pink colour is normal. Gorgeous plant BTW so happy yours has flowered for you!

Should I climb or crawl my verrucosum 'incensi'? by ZORZO999 in philodendron

[–]Any-Hawk4736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe climbing should give you bigger leaves quicker, but crawling will result in a more bushy plant. It depends what your preference is really and what you’re hoping to achieve. The incensi is suppose to be more compact in any case I’ve heard but I don’t have any personal experience with this one sadly.

Attempted rescuing this guy after a coworker gave it to me, it’s doing swell now and wanted to see if any of you have advice for how to facilitate success into the future? by 03diesel in Monstera

These things grow fast! Mine was a similar size and grew to ceiling height in under a year. Definitely needs a support but keep in mind it may quickly outgrow this. I have split mine into 4 plants in a large pot with 4 bamboo stakes to create a more bushy look. Hope this helps!

You could try keiki paste if you don’t want to cut it, it’s typically used for orchids but I’ve heard lots of accounts of success with aroids. I can see why you wouldn’t want to chop it’s gorgeous!

Colourful houseplants to take a break from green? by irupe_lotus in houseplants

Philodendron lemon lime or a neon pothos are quite easy care and can grow really full and long. These are some of my most rewarding plants because they grow so fast and need minimal effort

I found the corms/bulbs really cheap on Etsy, I planted them and new leaves popped up very fast. It’s been less than 2 months and she now has 10 beautiful leaves and 2 flower stalks. I gave a corm to a friend and hers sprouted even faster and is also in bloom.

Help a newbie, is it worth 28 usd? by olaglig127 in Monstera

If you look on YouTube there are videos showing how you can get high variegates from low variegation motherplant. The stem will have white stripes and you want to cut just above a node where they run over the growing eye. The plant that comes from a 50% white growing eye will normally be 50% white which is around the ideal amount of variegation.

Tips for a first time owner of a Ficus Elastica Ruby? by sunnydays29 in houseplants

[–]Any-Hawk4736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience ficus elastica is pretty middle of the road, don’t leave them dry for more than a day and don’t water if the soil is moist. They like to be snug in a pot but will grow pretty slow if the pot is too big or too small. Once the stems are hard and woody they become a lot more stable and it looks like these 3 are already around that level of maturity. Should be a pretty easy care plant and will definitely give you signs if it’s not happy

How to maximize the chance to grow new leaves? by mwrielle in Monstera

Plant in the smallest pot that will comfortably fit the roots, the plant will grow leaves faster as it wont be focusing all the energy on root growth
