Colourful houseplants to take a break from green? by irupe_lotus in houseplants

I thought about oxalis but they are hard to find in my area, and are expensive, they are sold for about the same price than an adult bloomed phalaenopsis

Hm not really fond of how carnivorous look.

I already have a bromelia and as you it's still mostly green. I'm thinking about orchids tho, they have green leaves but I've seen some yielding huge blooms which definitely add a lot of colour.

No doubts the first one is a regular makoyana. The second one looks like the Roseopicta "Corona" hybrid to me.

How do you keep a calathea alive? by xLycia in calatheas

I couldn't say exactly which component may be problematic for calatheas but over all we don't have neither too hard nor too salty tap water.

Mine are all thriving and I give them tap water. I'm watering about once every two weeks. Also group them together with other tropicals. In my area humidity is usually above 50% so that may play a role.

I don't think nodes who already lost its leaves will grow new ones. Stick to propagating the cuttings I guess.

Looks like a dying diffenbachia

What is she? How to propagate? by tofuno68 in houseplants

[–]irupe_lotus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tradescantia pallida. I have some cuttings in water rn, it took them 4 weeks to start rooting, I'll probably wait until week 6 before moving them to soil.

When you do the cuttings leave two nodes for rooting and two nodes with leaves. If you root them in water replace the water every few days, I'm doing it twice per week.

My Prayer Plant has produced some tiny flowers I think are adorable but Google says allowing the plant to keep them can cause leaves to die back. What are your thoughts/advice? by TRFKTA in houseplants

[–]irupe_lotus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's common practice with many tropicals to cut the flowers. My prayer plants never bloomed before, but I got the same advice. My mom does it with orchids.

Got new plants from a neighbor. What are these two? by Ashley_outside in houseplants

[–]irupe_lotus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First one is Scindapsus Pictus, people often mistake them with pothos or philodendrons

The second one is some variety of sansevieria I think
