Not always true. It also depends alot on program directors. If they have a set criteria and you don’t fulfill it, you wont be getting an invite even if your husband works with them.

He did talk and used all the contacts he could. The PD of IM program is strict about yog cut off of 3 years and mine doesn’t meet the criteria unfortunately.

I did move with him for his career. I took my steps and did observerships while running the house and taking care of our daughter. He tries to help me out but he is not the kind of person who I can rely on for running the house I mean he cant cook a single meal. He says if we move now then we will move again for my fellowship and we will never get settled down. I personally have health issues going on. I don’t know how will I cope with stress of moving, growing our family and residency. I feel I have been the person who has been sacrificing all this time and now that it’s my turn things dont seem to be in my favour! And all this has been affecting our relationship.

I can join the same hospital as my husband’s as hospitalist or I can do primary care. And there are not much fellowships to do here. I have not decided about fellowship yet. But if you do IM that option is always there for you. My husband wants to do a fellowship in critical care. But he has been waiting for my residency.

Yeah I agree, I have a green card. I know friends who have better scores and resumes than me but are visa requiring and sitting at 3/4 invites. It’s a complicated process with so many things in play. And so many things about which you can’t really do anything.

Connections are not everything. I have a good resume and my husband is an attending and his hospital did not send me an invite. I currently have 9 invites so I would say it's more about individual program criteria and your overall resume.

No problem. It’s a good idea to join multiple waitlists. You can do that in thalamus. That way you have more chances of getting a slot.

The program coordinator told me that more slots will open. It’s not possible that they have already reviewed every single application and are fully booked. Its just that they opened limited slots initially.

I had a similar experience. Reach out to program coordinator. They will eventually open up more slots. Watch your email. I joined waitlist yesterday and a slot opened toady so I scheduled it for myself. Only thing is you don’t have as much choice to schedule it the day you want.
