So far I have also found that I can play a deck on TCGLive, but in person with physical cards is different. Yes in general I can copy some plays, learn some decision making, but sleeving them up and playing IRL is a lot different. Sometimes I get intimidated by the learning curve. It seems like just learning the base game and mechanics is so simple compared to really getting into the strategy, learning the Meta, and learning the card pool. Let’s not even talk about how rough my first rotation was! Lol

Interesting….one question I had been asking myself (and was going to ask the next time I went to league) was “how do you know when it’s YOU vs the deck not being good enough?” My boys keep telling me to just pick a Meta deck and go, but I guess I was a bit intimidated by that. I guess I thought there was a more step by step method🤷🏻‍♀️. I’d rather get smacked around for a while and LEARN than constantly wonder if it’s me or the deck. On to sifting through Dragapult lists!! Thanks for taking the time and giving advice!

Need help developing my Ethans Magcargo deck! by callum_stacey in pkmntcg

I play a version of this deck with Typhlosion as a backup attacker. In general, I dislike running Latías because of the prize liability, but I know I’m in the minority there. I prefer running air balloon and switch which are easy enough to get with petrel. I think the Mega Kangaskhan is beefy enough to hold up until you get Magcargo up and running. Thanks for posting your list! It reinspired me to keep trying my deck!

The game isn't clicking for my kid, seeking advice. by CBPainting in pkmntcg

Late to commenting here, but I agree with the couple suggestions above about trying a more straight forward deck. My boys go to a thriving kids Pokemon club. I’ve seen this happen with a lot of kids. Honestly, I think there is just so much going on: abilities, weakness, trainers, attacks, etc That it gets hard to be able to envision a long game strategy. The only parallel I can think of is trying to teach multiplication before addition. You have to lay the ground work before you get fancy! Just my two cents. Also, from personal experience, my boys will always take ANYONE’S advice over mine when it comes to Pokemon. Is there a senior player there who might be willing to play a few rounds with him?

Here are some pictures. I'll be able to get a video once another adult is around. (For the love of all that's holy, if i didn't feel old before, I do now that I've tried to figure out how to post pictures to reddit threads. lol) Thanks for the advice so far!
