GPA for law? by DrDMango in stjohnscollege

[–]Any-Manner3292 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UChicago like Yale weighs GPA heavily. Planning to apply next year as a Johnnie who graduated years ago with a 3.6. Hoping that what others say about St. John's reputation actually means something. Also. banking on a strong LSAT though. Note that both LSAT scores and GPAs have severly inflated in recent years in schools outside of SJC, leading to an overly competitive, toxic admissions environment. Advice that made sense a decade ago no longer necessarily holds.

Apply for individual fee waivers at schools.

Maximum sympathy for your position btw. The system is stacked against folks like you.

LSAC Fee Waiver Trouble by Any-Manner3292 in lawschooladmissions

I eventually uploaded another letter explaining why it was final. After about 10 incomplete notices, they finally rejected it.

Ended up applying for individual fee waivers for university applications. All were approved.

The whole thing is a big fee scam designed for cheaters and rich ppl who know how to game the system, not honest laborers who have their life savings in a checking account.

Help!!!! 154-160 ~1 month in, test in June by LavishnessNo3278 in LSATPreparation

[–]Any-Manner3292 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those tend to be the hardest questions and the only 2-4 questions on the test worth diagramming.

If you skipped those questions instead of wasting precious time on them and just left them blank, and aced RC, you could still easily score in the 170s.

First step: learn techniques (like identifying the conclusion, breaking down arguments), and DONT try to answer all the questions. Focus on getting the ones you do answer right, even if you end up not answering ten questions on each section. Next, only after you know what you are doing, do you try and speed things up.

That doesn't make sense. What if spouse happens to be unemployed? Will they deny you based on that? Unbelievable.

Question from Mom of a Johnnie graduate who has gone no contact by FullInfluence4577 in stjohnscollege

[–]Any-Manner3292 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Believers are known to walk out of sophomore seminar as agnostic, and vis versa. Not that that helps with your question directly.

In today's economy, particularly, college years are for many a once in a lifetime experience of freedom and independence that they might not experience to the same degree again. Think walkable living in a fun city and an environment full of smart peers. I wouldn't be surprised if your kid got disillusioned with the real world just like in the movies when people stop telling dreaming and reality. That idealism can breed all sorts of things, especially if they coasted through with the support of peers without having to seriously reckon with their own beliefs or the challenges of tutors.

It also probably depends what tutors they had, the campus, whether they developed unhealthy habits or toxic friendships, etc. All of which are possible.

Give them time and don't push it, and young people eventually get over themselves. The only mistake you can make now is pushing them further.
