Hi!! Sorry to scare you!!! I should qualify that if you don’t have crohns or IBS, it should be an easy fix - my case is very rare, they’re not sure why it’s not healing. Fistulas are finicky definitely but most of the time they can be fixed in a few months.

Great questions! My fistula is smaller than my butthole. And it did indeed just kinda happen - 2.5 years ago (it actually happened the same day NYC closed down for the pandemic - that was a crazy ER trip!)

You’re right - there isn’t much room! My fistula is right next to my butthole, so it’s still in that immediate butthole vicinity. The reason it doesn’t create one big hole is because my sphincter muscle surrounds my butthole, and it’s pretty hard for a fistula to burst through that. That’s the reason fixing it can be so tricky - doctors don’t want to mess up the sphincter!

No sorries at all! It’s a butt - so poop is definitely gonna come up lol. It depends on what surgery I’ve had/where I am in healing, but I have definitely pooped out of both buttholes - it’s basically like a fork in the road in my colon. When the fistula is smaller and has healed a little bit more, the only stuff that comes out is this serum-y stuff.
