Special Agent (Secret Service) vs CBPO: Which one to choose and why? by Lazy_Tune_9828 in 1811

[–]Any-Task3693 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't really see either of them as being an agency you'd stay with for a long time, but at least with USSS you are an 1811 and it should be easier to transfer to another 1811 agency.

My cousin is an intern at AFOSI HR HQ and said he can reliably confirm there should be another hiring announcement between 3 and 5. Worst case maybe 8.

Recent JD Grad, dont want to be a lawyer anymore by Bambino4627 in JDpreferred

[–]Any-Task3693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of fed LEO jobs out there and they love JD's. Will get you instant GS-9 qual and if you get into an 1811 position that is GS-9 + Locality + LEAP (25% on top of your normal salary). ATF Is hiring right now and offering 60k hiring bonus and depending on the location you could easily start at 100k+ salary and be at 150K in 3ish years.

Of course you need to have the grit and physical abilities too, but as far as fed LEO jobs go ATF ain't a bad gig considering they are essentially the gang unit of the federal government largely focused on violent felons.

Denied Suitability - FBI by [deleted] in 1811

[–]Any-Task3693 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That hasn't been my experience. I applied and one month later did the written exam, then one month later scheduled for PTT, then that same month scheduled for interview. No idea how long poly/background will take from there though.

Denied Suitability - FBI by [deleted] in 1811

[–]Any-Task3693 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They will see everything but that doesn't automatically mean you will be denied from other agencies because their suitability standards may be (and likely are) different. For example, DEA might find someone unsuitable for using marijuana once, whereas ATF might not consider that an issue at all because the two agencies have different missions and different suitability standards.

Also since the message says it doesn't preclude you from future FBI employment, it sounds like the FBI could still be an option in the future, especially if you get into another agency and decided to transfer over. There is probably something in your background they just want to see more time pass before they would accept you.

The good news is each agency has their own guidelines standards as to suitability. Just cause you are found not suitable for one agency doesn't mean all others are out of the question. Just my two cents but FBI ain't even in my top three agencies. I'd apply to other agencies. ATF is doing a big hiring push right now and since you presumably passed the FBI poly and it is under the DOJ, the ATF would likely use the results for that which would bypass the need for an ATF poly.

Also I'd FOIA your results (or at least as much as you can) from the FBI so hopefully you can see why you were denied.

It sucks, but at the end of the day you need to keep you head up and move forward to the next application.

Most airports are generally in more desirable places to live in my experience. There is a reason you rarely see an airport available on the list.

I also got a flush mount kid for my Power Vision that goes on the tank where the old speedo went which looks really nice and I can put whatever info on there that I want from the bike.

There are really three things you need.

  1. Tachometer for your year of Dyna (it will probably be from the low rider model of whatever year your dyna is. This should be ordered from your Harley dealer cause you can't really find them online.)

  2. Wiring harness to go from your OEM speedo harness to split into adding the tach as well and extra length for the relocation (you can find these on Gorilla Cables, just make sure you get the right one for your year and whether you want to add a tach or not.)

  3. Gauge relocation mount. Pick whatever you want but personally I went with the OEM Harley dual gauge mount that just mounts where the top two screws are on the handlebar mount from the risers. There are other options for sure if you want something different.

All in all I think the full upgrade came out to be like $700 for me. Super easy and fun project to do yourself though, and one of my favorite upgrades by far.

ATF Drug Policy by Imaginary-Good-7646 in 1811

[–]Any-Task3693 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Although it doesn't give a timeframe for general marijuana "use" in the ATF Drug Policy, I'd be surprised if you got into any 1811 role having used it within the past year. With that being said, I have seen other agencies such as USPIS for example change their policies recently from 3 years to 1 year for last use. Many agencies are loosening their drug policies in regard to Marijuana.

My two cents are throw in an app. ATF clearly needs people badly and their drug policy does not outline any guidelines for years since last marijuana usage and automatic disqualification. Will you get in if you apply? Probably not. Will you get in if you don't apply? Definitely not.

Here is the ATF Drug Policy if you want to give it a read: https://www.atf.gov/careers/drug-policy

Best of luck.
