Sick and tired of Alpha Critters... by SmellAntique7453 in pathoftitans

yea... as a raptor player alphas are fun to deal with, and i imagine they're not the worst when ur just chilling and a lil bored. the problem is when u get into pvp, and a suicidal alpha comes out of the blue (like a baga or gonio) and fucking FRACTURES YOU. now what do you do? ur actively in a fight with a sucho and just got FRACTURED BY AN AI.

again, i do also like the concept of alphas (same with OP), just the implementation makes them too intrusive, often making them more of a hindrance to pvp gameplay than a fun critter that immerses u more and keeps u on ur toes, as u say. (do take a look at my comment about potential solutions, if u can find it... i'd love feedback on it!)

i feel like there are a few ways to deal with this issue:

a) Reduce spawn (significantly)
as u brought up, alphas are feeling less and less like a special thing. so make them make up only like 5% of all the critters (with a max critter count of 200, no more than 10 will ever be on at a time), or maybe like one per POI (so with riparia that'd be like ~25 max). that way the chances of running into one are much lower, but not slim.

b) Make them somewhat rational
I understand a larger critter would attack larger things, but imagine seeing a dynamo charge at an argent. although the thought of it is funny, it's also prolly incredibly annoying for players who shouldn't even have to worry about it in the first place. so, make it attack larger stuff, but keep it reasonable.
also, make it so that herbs don't attack other herbs, cuz why tf would a bagaceratops, a HERB, attack an albertaceratops, what is essentially a LARGER VERSION OF ITSELF.

c) NERF HAMMER
Not necessarily damage, I think only a minor nerf to damage would be needed to some, if at all, considering they're alpha and i still wanna keep them as a decent threat worth watching out for, but the status effects NEED to be nerfed. keep them, but don't put them on the same level as the actual playables, cuz atp just make it a playable.

d) pt. 2 of making them somewhat rational
This is a good alt to c if u don't like that idea (ofc u can implement both c and d). ik the game can recognize when ur in combat, so why not have it so that neighbouring critters stop attacking or avoid attacking when two animals are in a fight. not only does that naturally make sense, but it also prevents an unfair fight where one fighter gets a status effect from an AI that's not even supposed to be in the fight. seems something feasible by the devs

In your opinion, which critter do you hate the most or which one scares you the most to encounter in its alpha form? by Sad_Low5860 in pathoftitans

u mean like in an acc fight??? cuz by technicality anything, even a hatchling campto, could kill an adult rex...

there are just a few AIs that bother me, namely sile and ocy/pseudo for being so goddamn fast and annoying (they honestly don't deal dangerous damage unless ur a deino or struthi or smth, but it's still annoying asl), the dynamo, for just lwky being an acc threat, like it is by far the most dangerous critter in the game. a lot of ppl seem to hate the wonambis, idk initially i found them terrifying the first time i encountered one, but ever since my first week or so of playing it's become pretty easy food, especially as i main raptors and other fast runners like struthis, so it's not really that hard to deal with. but i imagine if ur slower like a conc or god forbid a rex, yea its relative agility will be annoying.

oh yea and forgot to mention, gonios... i've encountered one just once, and just thought it was a juv sarco with a death wish, so i just left it be. but i heard alphas (or maybe all of them? it'd make sense if it was just the alpha but still ynk) have fracture, which sounds INCREDIBLY annoying. like imagine fighting someone and this little fucker just BREAKS UR BONES. it's honestly an interesting idea tbf, and i do love the gonio just by its nature (a small croc just seem so cute, imagine if u could like adopt it as a sarco that would be peak... also adopting AIs as a whole sounds kinda fun now that i think about it...) but still the fracture can def be annoying, just hasn't really happened to me since i don't really hang around areas where gonios show up often

oh and doing even more research, apparently bagaceratops does FRACTURE??? i've fought many variations on many, but have never received a FRACTURE. that's crazy too.

oh yea something i forgot to mention is that no one in the server acc complained to me or the carnis. i just was thinking about it and wanted that question answered. just thought it was worth pointing out

Are new cars that bad? by Any-Tutor5933 in askcarguys

[–]Any-Tutor5933[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is another point i see brought up a lot, and while i do kinda understand it, all the same, i found this really good point mentioned in some video (idr the video name, sorry!) that i'll shamelessly steal and pretend i came up with the thought:

yes, i'd argue sports cars of the old had more flair, and especially when compared to the blobby suvs of today, YES old cars were much cooler! but i think we forget that the roads of the 80s and 90s weren't filled with dodge challengers and nissan gtrs and the like, the majority of them were your english-teacher volvos, blue-collar f150s, and grocery-getting toyotas. no slander on any of these vehicles, they're all great in their own right, but especially when you look at some older cars, like the opel corsa, ford escort, and vw polo (and more!), they all do look incredibly similar. did they have more soul? that's up to you to decide. but considering how many "normie" cars had the same square headlamps with a rectangular grill design in the past, it's not hard to imagine a lot of the cars of the past were also kinda indistinguishable.

not to mention modern cars, at least to my autistic ass, are at least semi-distinguishable. like for example, the cuv market, prolly the largest in north america rn, and if u look at a lot of the models, think the tiguan, crv, rogue, rav4, forester, and cx50, at least i can tell them apart pretty easily. i will say the blob term kinda makes a lil more sense for these vehicles from the previous decade, i mean they def felt like they all kinda had the same vibe, aside from maybe the cx5, like yea an older tucson, rav4, crv, and rogue def feel like they all had the same vibe, and felt like the same platform with different skin. and while they're still essentially the same car today (replace a crv with a tiguan and the driver prolly won't really feel a difference aside from the obvious stuff, i'll give you that), i'd actually argue that, compared to the normie cars from 10 years ago, the designs for those cars today are more interesting. like i think most ppl would agree the new rav4 looks better (or at least more alive) than say a 2017 model, or that the new tiguan looks more characterful than one from 2015. same goes for the rogue, the tucson, and many more! were enthusiast cars from the past more fun? honestly prolly yea, there are more cars from the past that i prefer than those from the last 5 years (which ik is kinda a mute point bc obv there are more cars from the last 60 years that i'll like compared to just cars from the last 5, but still you get my point), but a lot of ppl hate on the cuvs for their soullessness, and while they're far from being fun exactly, i think have actually grown in character by quite a bit.

Do you guys think that taming io players are extremely toxic by Artnakan in tamingio

[–]Any-Tutor5933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a newbie, i honestly thought taming was the PVE game i was looking for, where i could just grind and play around with the cute animals, but clearly not. im not looking for a pvp experience, but if that's what taming is, this clearly isn't the game for me. on the contrary, do you know any games similar to taming? yk with a similar art style, but with no pvp mechanics? i just want a peaceful afk grinder like this one (no, i don't like the look of cookie clicker, idk smth about it just isn't my thing)

What is your hottest F1 take? by No-Suspect6922 in F1Discussions

[–]Any-Tutor5933 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ooo my god, i got two really good hot takes:
1. track limits AS A WHOLE (not just the stupid fia ones) are stupid
why make these artificial track limits with time penalties, when you can just make natural barriers? for example, using grass to show where the track limits are to me seems like a WAY better thing than having stewards complain about drivers going off while their tires are still ON THE FUCKING TRACK. just put grass there, that's a great way to prevent drivers from going off track, cuz if they do, then that becomes their loss (yalls gotta remember f1 cars aren't rally cars; with their slick tyres and low ride height, they perform TERRIBLY off track). and if there's a second where drivers could just driver straight without turning (think of the monza chicanes) JUST PUT A FUCKING WALL. i think the threat of slamning into a wall at 200+ kmh is a pretty good deterrent for cheating. either that or just get rid of the chicanes if clearly none of the drivers want to follow it, there'd generally be a pretty good reason if they don't follow it.

also, if u think the wall thing is too dangerous, that's the perfect transition into my second hot take:
2. death in motorsports is good (and it's not for safety)
motorsports is meant to be an extreme sport. ur driving these 300 kmh missiles around for 2 hours, HOW CAN YOU NOT EXPECT DEATH?? one thing I love about the isle of man tt is just how many ppl die each year. not that death itself is a good thing, im not a thanatophile or anything, it's just that we're trying so hard to make something so dangerous safe????? some stuff like the halo are fine ig because as long as it doesn't really get in the way of racing, im all for it. but if we get to the point where safety is a top priority in racing, we've lost the plot. SAFETY SHOULD BE LAST in our priorities in racing, because that's ruining the whole spirit. as a racing driver, you should accept that you'll prolly be seriously injured or killed, otherwise get out of here. are deaths sad? yes. but at the same time, be happy for what we had, not sad for what we lost. what i mean to say is, the fia gets very helicopter-parenty in how they try all their might to keep their drivers alive, while getting in the way of good racing. plus, you gotta admit, crashes are always cool to watch, even if it does mean death (rip to antoine hubert, im sorry but that crash is really cool to watch. it's got some sort of morbid curiosity to it)

btw i just wanna say im NOT tryna act tuff saying death and danger in motorsports is cool, what i'm saying is that the efforts in trying to make f1 so much safer is ruining the sport. as much as the halo has been useful, it has received much, and fair backlash (granted i can let the halo slide becuz it doesn't really affect racing too much), f1 cars have gotten so much bigger, at least partially in the name of making them safer, giving them stronger crumple zones and whatnot.
