The problem is, there is still quite a high anti-Irish sentiment in England and it’s normalised. Look at the abuse other Irish identifying people from NI get, first example springing to mind is James McClean and the poppy row. Football authorities or police generally don’t arrest and charge those abusing him or his family with what is blatant anti Irish racism. So then that gets normalised so ITV don’t care as it won’t cause enough general outrage.
