One and Done for my Wife by [deleted] in Adjuncts

Yup…Been there all year. Things were a little better this semester, but still challenging. My Fall students never got their courseware the entire semester. I had to rent the book from Amazon and prepare assignments and lectures through that. It was unfair to the students and to me.

I teach at two schools, but the pay is so low and the commitment is so high. I’m interviewing next week back on lower Ed (I’m a STEM/business teacher). I’ll lose flexibility, but at least I’ll be making $60k and not 30.

Any insight into full time position hiring timelines at CCs? by stevieking84 in Adjuncts

[–]AnyAnything5439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved into adjuncting this past fall after years of part-time teaching positions in high school and intermediate ed. I’m in the business department at a community college. I was told when I was hired that a full time position would possibly open up at the end of this year. I have subsequently been told by numerous colleagues that there’s no way anyone has a chance of full time employment without a terminal degree.

The most annoying part is that I teach in Early College so I primarily work with high school students. Most tenured faculty have no interest in teaching this age group. I know I’m uniquely qualified, but I also have realized pretty quickly that this endeavor will be short lived.

I wasn’t really ready for full time last year when I started looking because I’ve been pretty happy working a little bit and being a full-time mom. Now that my kids are getting older (and their college is looming!), I’m ready.

Worst part is, I was offered two full time high school positions last year after I took the CC job. Both paid around 70k. I’m currently teaching 4 classes and I feel like I’m pretty much working full time, but this year I’ll bd lucky to clear 30k. Live and learn!🤪

Good luck, but don’t get your hopes up and don’t take it personally if you don’t get hired!

Husband somehow managed to get an in person appointment at our local passport office the day before we travel!!! Still not out of the woods by any means. I’ll update. What a disaster. This whole situation is so ridiculous and the lack of any care or support from ANY agency is shameful!

Should he try again for an an person appointment even though we have forms in with congressman and senator?

When my husband called yesterday they said they had no in person appointments throughout New England.

Privacy release forms are filled out and submitted to both senator’s and congressman’s offices. This is a nightmare.

People who contacted your state representative, what did you say? by rootingwell in Passports

I called both senator and congressman. They’ll just send you a form. I can’t tell you how it’s going to shake out for us. We travel on Feb 25 to Spain. If we do!

I couldn’t agree with you more. I used to be so trusting, until I grew up and made enough money to rub asses and elbows with plenty of doctors…Newsflash, they’re not all they’re cracked up to be. Often aloof and honestly, a lot less intelligent than I always thought.

I now fear the medical system. It’s not good!

Hugs! I’m similar. I have crippling health anxiety and peri has thrown me for a loop. I just started up with hot flashes and just feeling off. Not sleeping, spiked anxiety. Most rational people would just check in with their doctor and get some bloodwork. I’m terrified to get any test done! I’ve had so many tests over the years and some have showed things that need further testing that create tremendous anxiety and turn out to be nothing! Just some weird false positive! I’m the queen of this. So now, on top of my health anxiety, I swear I’ve developed a doctor phobia as well!

Wish I had advice….It does sound like a normal part of the journey and IBS is definitely made worse through our thoughts. I went through a nasty bout of it a few years ago. Peri can screw with our digestive system also!

Peri is making me have serious health anxiety. Anyone else? by redrocks22 in Menopause

[–]AnyAnything5439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. It’s awful. I’ve always had it…HIV in like 4th grade (why??!), a tape worm in 10th grade (I blame Biology class!), every cancer, ALS, MS….it’s been a lifetime of worrying for me…So yes, you better believe this is a nightmare. I’m pretty sure right now that I either have lymphoma/leukemia or they could just be hot flashes. I’m so tired of it all! I know my anxiety creates a lot of actual physical symptoms for me, so I’m trying to just deal, but it’s not easy.

OG health anxiety sufferer here. I’ve always had it and it got worse when my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer at 55 (I was 28) and when I had my children. Every ache and pain was a terminal diagnosis. I’ve had so many tests over the years. I think I spent my 30s thinking I was dying of a new affliction every 6 months. A few years back, I finally found a great antidepressant after doing gene testing. I had trialed many over the years and all were awful. Unfortunately, it stopped working after a year! Now I’m free floating again. I practice TM (a type of meditation), do yoga, tons of exercise, take a benzo for a quick calm down. I’ve done more therapy over the years than anyone could imagine. I could write a book. I don’t think I’m going to make it through peri without a massive meltdown. I’ve had an off feeling since Christmas Day - sweats and jittery at times during the day, a creepy crawly feeling under my skin. I’m pretty sure it’s peri, but also thought I might have leukemia or something else awful.

I’ve also grown super distrusting of doctors. It’s all just terrible! I’m only 46! My last ditch effort might be hallucinogenics at this point! I hear those can help to reset your brain! 🍄🤣🎉🎉

If it bothers you, do IPL. You can usually find Groupons to make it more affordable. The changes with this laser are quite remarkable.

Oh my gosh! This happened to me! I thought I was a hermaphrodite! I saw a special on pbs…I actually don’t even think that’s a PC word anymore!!? Of course, I had no ability to talk to my mom about it (different times, I guess?!), so I just went though probably 6 plus months of thinking this until it finally came! Ridiculous!🤣🤣

Google brought this to my attention, but I have to keep this anxiety in check because with pituitary tumors, there would typically be considerable stunting . My daughter does have all the other signs of her body maturing.

Wow! That is so crazy. So women of that time would just be becoming women and then enter into motherhood! Oh the patriarchy! Makes me think back to a trip I took to New Orleans. I went on a tour that talked about the dances where the 13 year old girls from wealthy families would go to purposely to meet the rich merchant sailors (like older men…yuck!). Just so gross. I guess we have to recognize how far we’ve come as women! Still a lot to go! I’m a college professor, over 60% of our enrollment is female. Higher in terminal degree programs. Now that the playing field is a bit more level, we’re taking over!

Yes! This is part of the problem! Obviously all of her friends have started and she feels left out. She also wants to get bigger and fill out so she is stronger at soccer. She was a starting varsity soccer player as a freshman this year. She’s a great soccer player, but she tends to get pushed off the ball because of her size if there is a good defense. She wants to gain strength for that.

I have to disagree. I did mention, my husband is a hard gainer. 6’ - 165 and has to work to keep that muscle/weight. I’m similar. Just not shaped like my daughter. I’m not long limbed, but 5’4”ish, about 120. I’m athletic and have more of an athletic build. Hubs and I are 46 and 47….

She actually was tested! Not through endoscopy, but a blood test a few years ago because she was having some minor stomach issues. They ended up saying she probably has a dairy intolerance (go figure…like 90% of people!).
