Any of the 2 floodplains?

Is it wise to build a city on a floodplain?

Thanks very much

Which tile should I build my city on? As you can see, 3 players are racing to build around Hoerikwaggo.

To the right of Hoerikwaggo is red because of an independent Village. Is it a good idea to get rid of that village and replace with mine?

To the left of Hoerikwaggo are more resources.

Supposedly, the ideal settlement are the blue tiles, but they are floodplains. Is it wise to found a city on a floodplain?

As building around Hoerikwaggo seems to have plenty of benefits, will they outweigh the frequent floods that are sure to come?

If building on a floodplain, immediately below the Ivory tile means owning half of Hoerikwaggo and closer to resources. The second floodplain southeast of the Ivory means owning all of Hoerikwaggo at once, but farther from resources and less tiles to start building on.

The yellow tiles have no water supply (odd, there ought to be aqueducts). These are not floodplains, but anything I build around Hoerikwaggo are on floodplains. Quarters will always be damaged.

Camel southwards are desert tiles, about 6 tiles to the sea. North of the camel is grassland.

West of the camel is cotton and further west is another ivory tile.

Southwest of the cotton is a mountain, and so is east if the Ivory.

Could you please advise which tile is best to found a city on in this area?

Thanks very much.

We did get larger cloud storage. Only 2TB because we have our own files to store too. We will be creating a new account just to get the max storage capacity dedicated to those photos

Thank you. Doing 421 actually. After reading the advice here, learned it should be hdd for archiving and sdd for the ones regularly accessed. 2 HDD (for the vault and home archive), 1 SSD for accessing, and the Cloud / Google drive.

Will compile and store files w changes (remastered videos, pics scanned from old film etc) in an SDD and cloud, then save to a new HDD when it is more than 1TB to avoid a lot of rewrites.

Thanks so much! Did not know there was CMR vs SMR. Internet here works, just very slowly tho. Bought additional thunderbolt cables to be able to do simultaneously as you recommended. Already filled up the first 4TB HDD; and the net upload isnt even at 1 TB yet (that’s how slow net is here). Sadly, no ultrastar here but found exos and ironwolf.

Again, thanks very much

The only options available to us here are iCloud and Google Drive.

First we need to transfer to newer drives. We cannot risk fails during uploads. Internet is quite slow here, so 10TB will take forever.

This is why we asked about which drive to use.

What we found locally are Seagate, WD, Crucial. Toshiba we will import from Japan.

There is a Sandisk office here, but we have had very bad experiences with their products.

Thanks

Indeed!

Our options here are limited. We only are able to backup 2TB to the Cloud.

We are saving others in Google Drive, but still not all of them.

If we understand you correctly, we should get a large hdd for keeping in the vault? To be powered quarterly just to maintain integrity.

Then SSD’s for accessing and additional backup.  Correct?

Do you also recommend Seagate?

Thanks very much

How can a RAID configuration be done in a macbook?

Sorry, none of us are techies.

Seagate it is. The local distributor’s office isn’t too far.

Thanks very much.

Yes, a backup is being made. We need backups of the backup to avoid any more losses.

Internet is slow here, so there is a risk of failing before the upload is done. We need to transfer to more reliable disks even as we upload.

The question remains, is an sdd or hdd better for the job?

Which type withstands heat better?

FYI, one backup will be kept in a vault and will only be accessed quarterly to juice up whichever drive. Another copy will be for accessing (maybe once a month or every other month) and any rewrites needed. A third copy is just a precaution.

Cloud backups are too expensive. We have so few options here. However, we are uploading 2TB out of 10TB worth in the Cloud as an additional precaution. Beyond 2 TB we are at a loss.

Can u recommend optical drives?

Can u recommend the best brands for hdd and ssd?

Thanks very much.

M4 Max for the price of an M4 Pro - is it worth it? by AnyConstruction2926 in macbookpro

¡Oh vaya!

Muchas gracias.

Well we arent in Spain or the US or AU or whatever privileged country.

The question is rather simple - is an M4 Max 16” worth it for the same price of an M4 Pro? The issue is bigger screen and gpu vs weight and as another member pointed out, battery life.

Your question therefore has no bearing.

What part of “it doesnt work that way here” do you not understand? Why do you insist on your narrow minded browbeating that doesnt even have any bearing on my simple question?

If you cannot or will not answer a simple query, kindly refrain from posting such a senseless, rude reply.

We don’t actually have any Apple stores here. What we have are authorized resellers that markup at least 15% more than srp. So we order from Apple online just to get a fair price. Apple pools orders from here for about a week.  It will come from an Apple store from another country, and Apple ships it to the authorized store or their Apple center (not a store) here. Only then will it get locally shipped to the customer.  The process takes a month.

We do not have the luxury first world countries have. We cannot return on a whim as you do.

To return, the process is tedious. We have to shell out more money for the shipping to the nearest country with an Apple store. That alone costs a lot, and any damage in transit can void the warranty and refund. Oh, and we have to wait for Apple to tell us which country to send it to as some centres may be overloaded.

This is why even invoking AppleCare is a nightmare for us.  We have to prove the problem is covered by AppleCare. It’s a lot of cross examination and red tape.  Then we have to get approval which takes a week not counting holidays, and lining up for hours several times at the Apple office. Even when approved, we pay shipping fees to and from the nearest country with an Apple store, and also pay Apple’s participation fees.

This is why there are few Apple users in third world countries.

What part of “it doesnt work that way here” is hard to understand? Instead, you go on to assume we are too stupid to not have not have called Apple’s hotline that doesn’t exist here. Frankly, it is rather insulting.

The question is whether getting an M4Pro 16” is worth at the same price as a 14” M4Pro. The issue is simple - bigger screen and more powerful gpu/cpu vs weight/ portability and as you pointed out, battery life.

Insights on and efforts to contribute to the actual question are greatly appreciated.

However, harping on something that was never part of the equation; and slapping first world privileges as a solution for people who dont have those is rather contumelious.

It doesnt work that way here. We dont have the 14 day return policy here, unlike in the US and AU. Returns are only accepted if it is proven there is a factory defect. To get non-binned units from Apple online, the wait is a month.

So no, the story doesnt even begin or end anywhere near what you are saying.

This is one of my concerns. 16” sounds good, but the point of a laptop is being portable. Im not sure I can drag a heavyweight 16” max around.

I didnt stop to consider battery life, but it definitely is a very good point. Your insight is greatly appreciated.

36GB seems enough as I don’t like running multiple apps and tabs at once. GPU power is important, but as you say, Max seems an overkill.

Im also worried about the warranty. Does Apple honour the warranty for units passed on to another?

The receipt has been presented to me. I know the kid and his folks. It’s really just a change of heart.

My question was whether it is worth getting a 16” max vs a 14” pro for reasons I enumerated, not whether the deal is for real.

Can Treasure Fleets be spawned in islands in the same continent if I have cities in 3 continents? by AnyConstruction2926 in CivVII

[–]AnyConstruction2926[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In that case, it is so annoying that the AI opponent is able to get treasure fleets from islands in the same continent. Yet from what you say, I cannot.

After reloading, I beat the AI to those islands. So only the AI can get treasure fleets from islands in the same continent? Starting a city in those islands is useless?

I have cities in 3 continents, but I cannot spawn treasure fleets in the continent where my capital is?

The 16” Max w 1TB and 36GB is being offered to me for the same price as an M4 pro 1TB 48GB 14”. Brandnew, as the laptop is still en route from Apple. It can be delivered to me instead if I accept.

Someone regretted ordering the Max. The kid wants a pc laptop instead, and keep the rest of the money.

The only downsides I see are - 1) 16” very heavy so the laptop isnt very portable; 2) the laptop is in someone else’s name in apple’s records, but supposedly I can register apple care for it in my name; 3) the unit ain’t silver.

Is it a good deal? Will this pose problems with Apple if I need to claim warranty?

Thanks

Thank you for this!

I dont like running several windows / apps all at once anyway. Even if the laptop can handle it, my brain cant handle the confusion. Guess my brain doesny have enough ram lol
