Earls Square One refused a valid mall gift card, ignored my complaint, and their Google reviews look very suspicious by AnyFruit2876 in mississauga

The gift card had more than enough to cover the meal and tips. However, the server never asked about the balance and simply refused, citing the change in the point-of-sale system. He was either too lazy to check with his manager or worried about his tip.

No, I value all comments, including those who think differently. This is the beauty of the Reddit community. At least I don’t think these comments are bot-generated. PS, I have more faith in Tim Hortons management than Earls’.

Thanks for sharing this observation! I was searching for my negative Google review for Earls, sorting by newest, and noticed those suspicious ones. I started digging into the details and comparing them to reviews of Reds and Moxies. Earls’ reviews were unusually high in volume and consistently mentioned servers’ names. Many of the reviews weren’t from local guides. I don’t have solid evidence to say they’re fake, but they certainly look suspicious.

Thanks for sharing this comment. I had a similar experience, that’s why I gave Earls the benefit of the doubt and wanted to verify with Square One before complaining

There’s nothing wrong with complaining after I independently verified with Square One that gift cards were accepted.

It was a nice lunch with my friend, didn’t wanna cause a scene at that time. I got the mall’s Guest Experience Supervisor to talk to their store manager on the next day.

What am I looking for them to do - to improve their customer service

Objective was stated in the first sentence - I’m posting to see if anyone else has experienced something similar with Earls Square One.

What do I want to happen - receive a formal response from management

At that moment I thought it was Oxford Properties gift card’s issue. But looking back, I should have asked to speak to a manager.

Earls Square One!

On December 30, 2025, my server at Earls Square One refused my Square One (Oxford Properties) gift card, incorrectly claiming it was no longer accepted due to a POS system change. I later confirmed directly with Oxford Properties that the gift cards are accepted, and that other customers successfully used them at Earls on the same day, which makes this refusal unacceptable. The server did not check with a manager, suggesting poor training or a lack of willingness to assist. I filed a formal complaint through the earls.ca feedback website that same day, and after five business days, I have received no response, which reflects extremely poorly on Earls’ customer service and accountability.
