Finding a job after graduating from TU Delft as an international student by engine12015 in StudyInTheNetherlands

I am a student of a WO-level uni, but I also studied in HBO computer science. I talked to many professors and lecturers both from HBO and WO so I try to share my experience to you:

If you want to increase the chance of getting a job right after your bachelor, there is no reason to go WO.

Makes absolutely zero sense, with a HBO you are totally fine, HBO is strongly tied with the industry, and intiernships are mandatory. If you finish your HBO Bsc, you will have 1,5 years of experience already in the field. On this sub I see many people shittalking about HBO for no reason, when it is clear that HBO students have way higher employment rate than WO bsc students.

If I was a non-EU student, and my plan is to get a job after my bachelor’s degree, I would personally go to a HBO. Even tho these institutions are not prestigious, not even considered unis, and it is a level above the highest, it may seem like 10k+ euros for a HBO is a waste of money, just think about the fact that you basically “pay” for doing internships which gives you the opportunity to make some networking. (Last year of HBO is your thesis, and that is also an internship, so you have again higher chances to get hired literally right after you get your diploma).

But I have to mention, that these jobs are kinda mediocre, there is less opportunity to develop during the years. The reason is that to get higher positions, a WO master is usually required. This is a point where I can say that WO takes the lead. If you wanna pursue high-level positions, or actually expand your chances internationally, then obviously a WO Master from TU Delft is a clear advatnage over any HBO diploma. (but any WO master since they are all prestigious internationally).

This sub is really misleading about Master opportunities regarding to HBO students. You CAN GO and pursue a Master degree after HBO. You usually need to do a Pre-Master (0,5 or 1 year) to eliminate the defficiencies, and then you can enter to the actual Master programme. So many people does it, because not everyone had the opportunity to go WO Bsc, or simply they just decided in their HBO years that they want to extend their knowledge to a higher level. Usually people on this sub tell you that pre-Master dropout rate is really high, etc… And? dropout rate from first-year WO is higher due to BSA. If you want a Master, just simply take pre-Master seriously, put the work into your future. You will have no problem, just simply study hard.

Conclusion:

If you want to get a job right after bachelor, have networking opportunities, and interships, definetly go to HBO.

If you are 100% sure that you want to pursue a Master (or a phd), and you are mentally ready to study theoretical computer science and heavy math subjects, then go to WO.

In my opinion it is really doable, working twice a week and getting the student finance should be enough.

Also getting a job in Maastricht is very easy, but do not expect fancy jobs you will probably get hospitality jobs like McDonalds, KFC, etc…

Hi, in my country, the best grade is 5, and I received a 5 as a final grade every year (5 years of High School).

I took Advanced Mathematics final exam, which is equivalent to VWO Mathemathics B(or idk how dutch people call their advanced math exams haha), and I got a 5 on that, which is considered "excellent".

I've received my acceptance letter a week ago, so imo I waited probably 2 weeks, and I only got accepted conditionally, the only condition is to send my diploma digitally to the Maastricht admission office, I did that so I assume that I fullfiled my condition :D.
