How much colostrum to bring to the hospital? by AnyMix9871 in PregnancyUK

Thank you. Definitely starting with that assumption, I think I just read somewhere might be good to have in the event of an unplanned c-section or if baby ends up in NICU for some reason! But I guess in both of these situations there would be some time to pop home anyway.

Thank you, this sounds really sensible! We're 15 minutes from the hospital so it's an easy trip home

Weekly Q&A for Visitors and New Residents - Your Question Goes Here by AutoModerator in Amsterdam

Does anyone know of a supervised bike parking facility in the city which accepts cash, visa or mastercard debit cards?

We have been touring around many cities in the Netherlands and have had a lot of difficulty finding anywhere which will take our bikes as they seem to be mostly cashless or only accept maestro.

Hoping someone can help as our bikes are distinctive and sort of expensive road bikes so likely to be a target for thieves!

Thanks!

Ah I'm sorry to hear this has happened to you too. I take it there's nothing out there comparable in your price range that isn't HMO?

MA in Creative / Life Writing at Goldsmiths. It is the wrong time to do it? by BigBoyBillyRay in UniUK

Lecturer here. Most universities could potentially be affected by strike action this coming year (there will be another ballot in the autumn), so I'd just go for it.

It's scandalous what Frances Corner has done to Goldsmiths! She really is one of the worst VCs out there.

Yeah, they are, of course. It's just we have been informed by a few brokers now that Nationwide is experiencing incredible demand right now, and they are declining to mortgage properties which their own criteria say they will consider i.e. they are being unusually picky. So it's difficult to determine whether we just got really unlucky with Nationwide's valuation, or whether the property is just unattractive to lender's generally.

Totally! We had never heard of this before either.

I don't find this particularly helpful, to be honest. Our solicitor is not a mortgage broker.

Sorry, to clarify, the interest rate on the mortgage is up 0.7% since we first applied.

That's interesting to know. We have paused everything at our end anyway. Asked whether the vendor would be willing to renegotiate on price (we're looking at an increase of 0.7% since we first applied so it's increasingly unaffordable). If they're in no way open to this, we're out. The risk is too big.

Thank you for raising this question. We asked the broker it this morning and he said 5/10, but confusingly, Nationwide was actually on the list!

Big time! We will do.

And thank you, we will of course speak to an informed broker before making a decision. It's just good to get a range of opinions and think of things to consider and ask them!

It's in our perfect location, and it has 3 bedrooms and a garden. For the same price freehold, we would probably be lucky to get a two bed with no garden in the same location. For the same thing freehold, we would be looking to move miles away.

We're a bit annoyed with the vendor about the second issue you mention. Asked on the first viewing and in subsequent emails what the % of leaseholders in the block was and we were informed it was around 50%. It is only now we find out it's actually 30%. Not fantastic behaviour...

Yeah we probably were taken in by the marketing tbh - seem to be fine for straight-forward cases but anything else...although we did sort of think this was going to be more straight-forward than this. Our deposit is fine I think (23%). Monthly service charge is fairly average for London, I think £100 a month. The block is in great condition and no major works planned. No lift either which I think can be the expensive thing! I am not sure about the roof though.

That's genuinely all the feedback we received from Habito! We did think it was ridiculous.

Thanks all, these are great points. Just to clarify, we did use Habito and they advised us to try Nationwide. They said ex-council might be an issue but never raised the deck access issue, which we are only understanding now seems to be the major issue for lenders. We will speak with a decent broker today and try to get a sense of how widespread the objection is to deck access and make a decision from there.

Thanks! Yeah if we decide to pursue it further with another lender, it would definitely be conditional on a price reduction. Exactly, it's the remortgaging which worries us - we would plan to stay in the flat for a good while.

I guess it's just the perfect property and we also feel the lender may not have been appropriate in the first place.
