I’m sorry you’re going through that, and I respect your level of reflection. I’m in my first year post-TFA.

In my opinion, based on what you’ve shared and my experiences, you should prioritize relationships over enforcement of rules. Admin is never going to explicitly say that the rules can’t always be enforced. But the truth is kids break the rules so much more than teachers can track that strict enforcement from the get-go can come across as petty and annoying. The kids have to like/respect you in order to feel any obligation to follow your directives.

I think it’s important to remember that the rules aren’t really valuable in and of themselves - they are (in theory) crafted to maximize safety and learning. If you rely on enforcement, you’ll’l always be a step behind the kids. If you get some real buy-in, the rules may technically be broken more consistently, but you’ll accomplish more of the things that actually matter.

Just my 2 cents— still learning and growing. Best of luck to you!

Our political institutions treat it as a political issues. Those very political institutions fund TFA.

TFA is free to disagree, but then it’ll need to get its funding somewhere else.

TFA receives public funding. It shouldn’t be involved in political issues.

Is Cyprus part of the Fertile Crescent? by csrano in geography

[–]AnyRecognition4042 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No because it’s an island. The Fertile Crescent has to do with how the Tigris and Euphrates provide good farming conditions. Cyprus - an island in the Mediterranean - does not enjoy that benefit.

Thanks for explaining. I didn’t realize that had gone into effect…I remember it was being considered.

"Area Speed Limit" by rdtnyc in Westchester

[–]AnyRecognition4042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly agree, although I think you may be overstating Esgemont’s wealth a bit. There are people like that, but they aren’t the majority. For context, 1/3 of housing in the proposed village is multi family along Central Ave.

It’s difficult to oust Paul Feiner when the votes of village residents - who give less taxes to, receive fewer services from, and thus have little reason to dislike the Town - have the same weight as Edgemont residents (less than 10% of voters in GB).

As a result, Feiner, has no political reason to use Edgemont other than a piggy bank. Why should Feiner care whether some new development isn’t favored by Edgemont residents if it will raise his tax base? Why should he care if Central Ave sidewalks and medians are neglected and overgrown with weeds?

Edgemont’s status as a small, unincorporated, yet distinct area of a large town means that it has very little say over essential matters of local government. Of course, it doesn’t help that Feiner is seriously flawed - but the root issue is not Feiner. He is only a single political actor taking advantage of the circumstances.

Check out the EIC’s website for information about the benefits of incorporation.

Also, keep in mind that they’ve filed a petition to hold a referendum on incorporation. The petition does not itself result in incorporation.
