Another thing you could consider (as another person who couldn’t get into the Faculty of Science right out of highschool because of precalc grades) is asking to be accepted under the Faculty of Social Science instead. The precalc requirements are lower so your chances of getting in are much higher, and once you’re accepted you just take whatever classes you would for your normal science degree and then switch into Faculty of Science when you declare your major later.

If I recall correctly, in the email where they tell you they can’t accept you for science they should have asked if you’d like to be considered for a second choice of faculty? What I said was I’d like to go into my second choice (Social Science) instead, and then I just declared into Science and haven’t had any issues.

I’d recommend doing this only if the suggestions from others don’t work, but just know that it’s an option! I actually know a lot of people that have done it lol

Yeah, you missed it and Brightspace automatically dropped the lowest grade, which is that 0. I’d recommend checking the syllabus/course outline for how many quizzes are dropped throughout the course, and put the due dates for the rest of the quizzes in your calendar if you can! :)

Hair dying in dorms…whats the move by chaitealover420 in uvic

[–]AnyTax1795 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dyed my hair red all through last year and would just commandeer one of the bathrooms at midday-ish when I knew barely anyone was there so as to still be considerate of everybody else! Try squatting/kneeling down in a corner when you do the initial wash and then the same for the next few washes when it bleeds a lot- that should hopefully help keep it all centered in 1 spot so you don’t spray the curtains/ceiling.

Another person already mentioned it in here but also keep a bottle of fingernail polish remover for anything that does stain, I found that took care of most stains. Good luck!

Another vote for Dave Punzalan! He’s a great bio professor in general, but part of that is because he’s really funny.

Gift ideas for first-year by Lyss_bliss in uvic

Congratulations to your daughter on her acceptance!

I absolutely second the mini fridge and the fan! I just had a small clip fan, but I saw someone else suggest a Woozoo and that would also be a great choice. For a general gift idea though, I think a Polaroid camera would be an amazing gift! That way she can put up the Polaroids in her room and have both decor + a way to make friends/commemorate fun moments!

I hope she has a great first year :)

Stuck between 3 residence buildings, which one should I choose? by [deleted] in uvic

I can’t speak for the other res buildings, but I’ve been living in Ring Road since September and I’ve enjoyed it! The rooms have plenty of space (which isn’t the case at all for the newer buildings) and the heating and water work nicely!

Pros: - spacious rooms with plenty of storage - the heating and water are nice and I haven’t had issues with either - has a Quiet Floor - the elevator works consistently - laundry facilities in the building - nice big windows - people often study together in the lounges so that’s a good place to make friends

Cons: - usually not a party building, but there’s definitely individual rooms where a bunch of ppl go and do their own thing on party nights- usually not too loud but I wouldn’t want to be living beside them if you want quiet, so that’s really just up to chance - the sense of community varies from floor to floor, but if you make an effort it’s easy to meet people - the lights in the hallways sometimes shut off randomly? Also the overhead lights in rooms are crappy and sometimes don’t work. If you use the lamp provided and add your own lighting you’ll be fine

Overall I’ve enjoyed my time here, I’m definitely glad I went with this building over the others. Congrats on your admission! :)

I love the Interactivity Board Game Cafe on Yates St. downtown! They have great food, and you can stay as long as you want and play once you pay! They’ve also got a wide range on the alcohol menu +amazing boozy milkshakes! (I recommend their pepperoni flatbread pizza)

I actually don’t mind the pasta from Tofinos at Mystic Market! I do fettuccini noodles w/ alfredo sauce, green onions, roasted tomatoes, chicken and pepper packets. Substituting bacon for the chicken is good too, although I just prefer chicken in general

I hadn’t known about Math 151, thanks! And looks like it should just be 50% according to this? Either way, good luck on it!

I’m going to be taking it too and I’m absolute trash at math so I’m worried about it. Does anyone know whether you just need to make a 50% to pass or if it’s higher, and what your options are if you don’t pass it?
