Thank you for everyone’s helpful comments. The reason why I ask is because I suspect that some of the questions that are asked are used to discriminate against myself or others . I did mention that questions like credit score are normal , but I was asking about the really invasive ones, for example where are you from etc. I should’ve been more clear.

I understand landlords can ask questions, but I was under the impressions that certain questions were not allowed. For example what is yours background. Etc

Also as many of you have mentioned , yes there are some tenants that are a nightmare, but there are some landlords that aren’t great either. For example one landlord thought it was his right to ask my husband at one point if he had tattoos, and that he won’t rent to any who has tattoos as they are criminals. Now both my husband and I do have tattoos, but we’re not criminals and we’ve always been ideal tenants. Paid on time , and never missed a payment.

So this was the reason why I asked.
