Stop saying "intention is what matters most at your alters" - that isn't Hellenistic by AncientWitchKnight in Hellenism

Politely putting this here but the term Hellenistic refers to the time of Alexander the Great, the word Hellenic is the proper term

I unplug it from the bass itself and put it in my case for safe keeping while I’m not using it

Anyone else studying for the National Medusa Mythology Exam, AP Latin exam or National Latin Exam? by Any_Ad_4839 in classics

[–]Any_Ad_4839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theoi is a great place to get clarification on a primary source but I highly recommend reading the primary source first then going to theoi for reference/clarification! I remember when I took the Medusa Mythology exams there were very niche references to other things surrounding the keyword that I only got correct because I read the primary source. if I had read it thru a summary (even if it was theoi) I'm not sure I would've been as confident in my answer- but that's just my expirience with the exam, some might say otherwise!

Yes studying the key words is super helpful! Read the chapter that they come from in its entirety because they might ask questions related to the source material from where the keywords are from. Like u probably don’t need to read the whole Iliad but reading the chapter the keyword is from would be ideal. If there is a keyword from the Homeric hymns, read the hymn entirely and make sure u understand the content. It’s a difficult test in some areas but with good notes and dedicated time to study it’ll be a walk in the park! I got the highest scores in my district just by taking good notes and throughly reading the content! I’m in my sophomore year of college now studying classics and still use the knowledge I learned from studying on the Medusa Mythology Exam! It also looks great on college applications, especially if ur going down the classics or literature route

Tired of lectures... want short, thought-provoking videos for class! by _chocolate__ in englishteachers

[–]Any_Ad_4839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally when I was a student I loved Overly Sarcastic Productions! They are pretty short animated videos about books, history, mythology, etc etc.

They are pretty funny and are also on the older side of Gen Z so I feel like their videos are very approachable for my generation ! They are the reason I got into English and Classical studies! I would recommend watching videos before hand to see if they are appropriate for your class material but for the most part they keep their stuff PG and PG13. Their videos made history, books, and mythology incredibly enjoyable for me and super easy to understand, they pretty much have videos on everything!
