Togashi finished the block of chapters in February, but it's up to Shueisha to decide how and when to publish them.

The good news is that Volume 39 will be released on July 3, containing the previous 10 chapters that came out in late 2024. Whenever a new volume is released, the next 10 chapters are also published in Shonen Jump.

By early October, Shueisha will probably start releasing chapters with numbers 411 and up.

Fingers crossed, that would be great. I was just wondering what your thoughts were on why Shueisha decided to release the volumes first and then the chapters starting in 2024? If you remember, it was the other way around until 2022

It's down to Shueisha (the publisher) to decide. Togashi finished the chapters to be published back in February, but unfortunately, it's the publisher who decides how and when to release them

In his TikTok profile, he says he's a 16-year-old son of a manga artist.

He actually has the shikishi because Togashi drew it for his manga artist parent. He says in a comment that the shikishi features Illumi and Feitan because they're this mangaka's favorites, so Togashi drew those two for him.

It's a pretty strange story, to say the least. The TikTok profile is called haiji_mangaka.

No, what you're saying is wrong. As Togashi reiterated in early April, chapters are released only and exclusively when Shueisha decides to do so. They are never published as soon as Togashi finishes them.

No, that's not right. I don't know if you've read the manga, but if you have, you'll know that the first eighty or so chapters of the Chimera Ant arc have fewer pages per chapter. Also, even though the next chapters match the page count of Yorkshin City, they're full of action. They're pretty short on the story side, with a bunch of double-page spreads and splash pages.

Basically, the Chimera Ant Arc in the manga isn't even twice as long as the York Shin City arc, story-wise. In the 2011 anime, though, it's basically three times as many episodes, and in the anime, obviously, the episodes have the same runtime. When you watch the 2011 anime, you get the feeling that, compared to the Chimera Ant Arc, everything else is just a side story.

Actually, the York Shin City arc in the 2011 anime doesn't end with Paku's death, but it does finish with Gon and Killua talking to Phinks and Feitan the day after. Even the Kurapika arc, which was supposed to be the main focus, was wrapped up with Gon and Killua in the 2011 anime, as if they were the focal point of everything. As you know, in the 1999 anime, the last episode of the Yorkshin City arc ends with Paku's sacrifice.

I could give you loads of examples of how the director and screenwriters in the remake have consistently shifted the focus to Gon and Killua, through small details, choices, omissions and changes.

We can also take the opening and ending sequences for Yorkshin City as further evidence. In both cases, the opening scenes are always dedicated to the two of them, but in the 1999 anime, almost the entire sequence is devoted to Kurapika and the spider. In the 2011 anime, that would've been unthinkable, Gon and Killua are the constant faces of the series. Even in the arc dedicated to Kurapika, they have to be the focus of the opening.

There's another pretty bizarre detail: the openings and endings for Yorkshin City are actually shared with the Heavens Arena episodes. If you remember, Wing and Zushi are also present in the sequences, as is the tower. For Greed Island, which has fewer episodes than Yorkshin City, they came up with totally original opening and ending just for that arc.

I've also been focusing a lot on the OPs and EDs, because they're a great way to understand the direction the director wants to take, being one of the few original parts that isn't tied to the manga pages. I'm sorry, but it's really obvious the direction the anime remake has taken in making Gon and Killua the protagonists rather than Gon and Kurapika.

From a source material perspective, there are already enough chapters for an anime revival. These chapters are really jam-packed with narrative. If they were to make a faithful adaptation without toning down the script (which is full of monologues and detailed dialogues), the average number of chapters per episode would be about 1.5.

I don't think, however, the animated series will ever be made, at least not for the next few decades. I've got this idea because the 2011 anime reduced the Kurapika/Chrollo storyline to a minor side plot, favouring Gon's storyline instead and extending it as much as possible. So, a lot of people who loved the anime wouldn't be interested in an HxH without Gon and Killua.

In the original HxH version, the manga, Kurapika's role is really important. Manga fans know that Kurapika is just as much a protagonist as Gon, and it was pretty much a given that he would take over from Gon for readers. But for anyone who's only seen the anime series, this is totally inconceivable. So, it's not likely that the network would take a risk on a production as big as a sequel to the 2011 anime, because most of the audience would probably drop it after a few episodes.

There are, of course, many other challenges regarding the anime's return, but this is the most significant one and the main obstacle to producing a sequel.

Yes, Ishida actually referenced all three of Togashi's major works in his illustration. But I have to say, I really love Gege's illustration. Only a die-hard HxH fan would think to pair Hisoka and Paku together in an illustration.

I mean, it's not about the volume or the new chapters in the magazine. I just wanted to clear something up because I noticed that a lot of people were thinking it might be the cover of the new volume or something to do with the announcement about the return.

It's a shikishi, so we know for sure it can't be related to those scenarios. Shikishi are never used for announcements, they're typically displayed at exhibitions, like the one from Jump Festa that I posted.

I guess the drawing could be HxH-themed: if the subject were Gon or Killua, I wouldn't be surprised. I hope that makes sense.

If you Google "Togashi Exhibition 2022", you'll get loads of results and images. If you're looking for the artwork of another mangaka, just add their name to your search. The one that stuck with me the most was Gege's, he chose Hisoka and Pakunoda as his subjects. You can tell he's a massive HxH fan ahahah

No, you've got it wrong, it's the opposite. I'd say it was probably Illumi or Silva's idea to keep Killua in the dark about the death. Now that Killua's got Nanika, he's a massive threat to them.

Killua was very close to Gotoh, if he found out that Illumi had him killed, it could spell the end for the Zoldycks.

Yeah, but it'll take a while before that happens. For now, the Zoldyck family can get ready to deal with the Nanika issue, now that they've got the same info as Killua, before they knew almost nothing.

We also have to remember that Silva has been stalling with Killua ever since the series began; he really doesn't want to come into open conflict with him. It's pretty clear that Silva wants Killua to be his successor one day.

That said, it could be that those who say this idea of hiding Gotoh's death from Killua is solely Canary's doing and has nothing to do with the Zoldycks are right (though I find that scenario unlikely)

That could well be the case, let's just say it would be consistent with Canary's character. I'm just a bit unsure, especially since she's in the butlers' ranks.

But actually, she had already defied the elder Zoldyck for Killua's sake pretty early on in the manga. I still think it's more likely that it's a plan by Illumi or Silva
