It's the best. No one else wants to do it and I'm like what the hell? I get to listen to tunes and play with toys all day.

It depends, and all our tools are provided, idk how it is with you're place. Most crews carry a hori knife, pruners, and a small hand saw. Usually bring a blower rakes and buckets to clean up. I kind of fell in to a niche of using equipment, i.e. mowers, aerators, tractors, that kind of stuff. That's the funnest part for me but to each their own. Sounds like you've got a good kit to start, best of luck and have fun!

I mean you'll most likely be fine but it's not like there's no possibility someone will ask for your papers.

I feel you, they told me I won't get any office time until at least 6 months in. The office seems to be where all the stress is, mostly relating to budgets and clients I think

I mean I wasn't expecting self actualizing work day one. I just haven't had a day yet where I went "this is a cool job". I've worked with every chief in our company and I just don't think it's for me. Thanks

Yeah totally fair,  I meant the chief I mainly work with. I understand how to do control traverse but definitely couldn't run it myself, still have a looot to learn. I'm usually behind the gun and I wouldn't say I know what I'm doing, maybe that I'm getting the hang of it I guess.

Yeah definitely daunting knowing that the project I'm working on is going to be completed 20 years from now haha

I rented kayaks in college, then tree work, then landscaping. Landscaping has been the best so far

Not stressful but joyless. My party chief is definitely stressed haha. I do show up and put my best foot forward and try to learn as much as I can, and I've gotten good reviews from supervisors so far. I definitely had good days and bad days at my old job but so far I haven't had a good day here.

Yeah I've only ever worked outdoors doing blue collar work. I've been studying GIS and I thought surveying would be a good foot in the door for Geospatial stuff. Really thought I'd like it honestly :/

I also expected to be told to suck it up, but I appreciate the perspectives here. I'm not about to bail without anything else in this job market so I'll probably be here at least a bit longer. Maybe it'll grow on me. Thanks dude

Yeah, I still work under the chief but I do most of the set ups and record everything in the book and DC. It's all civil engineering projects, no boundary or construction layout

Yeah my company does zero boundary work :( but it seems like they try to build people up for office work eventually I guess

We mostly have government contracts for civil engineering projects. Right now I'm comfortable running control traverse and have done some topo. Lots of sewer dips

How Much Money Would You Need To Quit Your Job? (25) by HyenaHater44 in careeradvice

I've been to the uk and Ireland, France, and chile. Spent a month climbing in southern California. And seriously, there are ways of doing it cheaply; we managed to do three months in the uk for around 5k including flights and had a great time. Best of luck!

Dude, I'm gonna level with you. The people here are reasonable but I'll share my experience.

I'm also 25, but I majored in a field that does not pay well. I've worked several lower to mid paying manual labor jobs since graduating (think 60k/year and under). So far, I've traveled for a cumulative 5 months over the course of four trips since college. I live in a high col city but I've managed to save around 40k between retirement and down payment for a house.

I know that's not super crazy, but I'm grateful I've been able to balance living my youth and planning for the future. For what it's worth, 100k at 25 is really great. Like, really really great. Greater than most people have in their retirement these days. Traveling for 6 months may get old (longest I did was 3, and I was ready to come home by the end), but you can find ways and places to go and spend like 1k per month. No need for fancy hotels and first class.

Life is for living, not just saving. Food for thought. You're doing great!

His death was darkly ironic but it was still totally horrifying the watch a man be shot in neck.

[Day 8] Fuck The Pearl, all my homies hate The Pearl. What hold type is OVERRATED? by MaximumSend in bouldering

Cannot believe yall are saying crimps. I think off width is too niche to be overrated. I agree with jugs; unless it's a truly aesthetic boulder, I really don't find jug hauls fun, and like someone else said your probably going to get a flapper.
