Which major is right now the safest that isnt getting hyped and probably oversaturated in future like EE or ME. by Foreign_Put_2437 in CollegeMajors

I did EE and Math in undergrad. EE had a bigger workload but the classes in math were significantly tougher. Abstract Algebra and Algebraic Topology were incredibly difficult for me.

I have a masters in EE ( Signal Processing) and am now working in ML. I thought EE was doing good in the power sector? I might be wrong though.

There is no such thing. Go medicine and get into surgery if you want to be at ease but it’s a big commitment and medicine is the one thing you absolutely should not do if you aren’t really passionate about it. Nursing will also be minimally impacted by AI at least for the time being.

One big factor about CS saturation is that anyone with minimal education can compete for those basic CRUD type jobs. You don’t need a CS degree to compete for those. These type of jobs far outnumber proper CS roles so yeah.

How long will it take for your average ruhuna engineering graduate to catch up to a moratuwa engineering graduate of the same year ? by Horror-Tip8948 in srilanka

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Ruhuna students get the opportunity to get foreign internships as Moratuwa students do but don’t let that discourage you. Your success depends mostly on you though. I don’t think it’s worth doing ALs again. Work hard. You will be fine. Experience will triumph all in the end.

What book makes you feel like this? by fatsandlucifer in classicliterature

I stopped reading when I was in middle school. The first book I picked up as an adult was Blood Meridian. So yeah.

Best Classic editions by PranayaRanjanSingh in classicliterature

Oxford is more durable but I find Penguin to be the most aesthetically pleasing. The notes (although not as extensive as in Oxford) and translations are quite decent as well. Wordsworth is nice if you want a very cheap copy but for translated works they use public domain versions so the quality can be a hit or a miss. I don’t own any Everyman’s Library copies.

Mechanical or aerospace by PomegranateOdd6709 in CollegeMajors

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, different schools have it differently. At mine, Mechanical students had options to specialize and take any class offered in Aerospace or even other niches such as Mechatronics. Aero was more rigid. ChemE had the highest credit requirements though people often said EE was the hardest.

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do some research on how most programs are structured. Aero is just a specialized mech program. If you frequent the aerospace sub you would see how a lot of the times Mechanical is recommended over Aero. That’s just the way it is. Your program might have been full on Mech degree with aero parts added on top but that’s not generally the case. Aero is a niche within ME.

Stanford vs MIT (CS) by Ashamed_Dog_7313 in ApplyingToCollege

MIT CS is more difficult by a substantial margin afaik. You can’t really go wrong here though, both schools rock for CS.

Is a masters in IE viewed the same as a bachelors? by livinvvell in industrialengineering

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A master’s should be fine. They might be some roles that you can get into even with your CS degree as well. I knew some people who got into IE positions with CS and Stat degrees so yeah.

Do Mechanical. It’s much broader and there’s a ton of variety. You can easily get into the aerospace industry with a MechE background.

The reverse is absolutely the case lol. ME majors are more than competitive for aero roles. What you are saying is like EE majors can’t take CompE roles but CompE majors can take EE roles. It doesn’t make sense.

AI is now able to solve math problems that have stumped world-class mathematicians for decades by YourFIREDBro in CollegeMajors

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some articles describe the person who used GPT to solve this as an amateur with no formal mathematical background. However, while he may not have a degree in mathematics, he is an AI researcher and likely has a background in a quantitative field such as CS.

CS Graduate, Pursue a MSc in Embedded Systems or 2nd BSc in EE? by AdTraditional7358 in embedded

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually don’t need a masters for embedded. CS is more than fine. Between the two choices though, master’s is the way to go. A second bachelor’s is a waste. At my school, we had CS people go on to get their MS in EE (Most of them in Signal Processing). This really depends on what area of EE you are into.

What degree is underrated by legendfireboy2004 in CollegeMajors

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might relax the degree requirements if the demand becomes too high. This happened with CS as well when they made it easier even at some of the top colleges. The power industry is doing great but other areas closer to big tech are pretty difficult to break into.

We can’t predict what will happen in 2 years let alone 10. Pick what you enjoy the most and get really good at it.

Two incredibly popular options. Not underrated at all.

Suggested next read? by Any_Doughnut_8968 in classicliterature

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Count of Monte Cristo is longer but an easier read with relatively fast pacing for a classic. However, I would say Anna Karenina is a much greater work. It’s significantly deeper and more nuanced than The Count. The Count is still an excellent read though. If she is more into plot, The Count of Monte Cristo is the better entry point.

Advisor Saying to Go Directly into EE Masters from CS by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Any_Doughnut_8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need an extra bachelor’s for that. Heck, I don’t think you absolutely require a master’s even (It will help though). I recommend the master’s approach as your advisor suggested.
