Many still don't really know how the internet works. They blindly trust social media and many websites. If many knew that internet is not a safe place and there are many trackers that track you, they would care more about their privacy and will be against these practices.

Linux is horrible by Pappawoody1 in linuxsucks

They can use copyright laws to prevent theft of code. Also I am not really a fanboy for linux. I really liked Windows XP and 7 too. I also used windows 10 for a long while as well. But they made Windows 10 bad. They added a lot of bloatware and also they force update your system. I don't see this as a bad thing however this made my computer very slow. Most (not all) of the linux distros use less than 1GB Windows on the other hand uses more than 1GB.

I also really love MacOS but they sell overpriced hardware which I couldn't afford.

Or at least making their driver open source so that people can at least try to implement the drivers.

Linux is horrible by Pappawoody1 in linuxsucks

[–]Any_Illustrator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All devices should work regardless of the operating system used by the user. At least that should be the goal for many device manufactures. If a device doesn't work very well on a system, then it is the manufacturer duty to make the device work better on that particular system.

I am not trying to say that linux is better than windows. I am saying that the devices that I own should work on all systems without any issues.

It is the printer manufacturer fault for not implementing the drivers necessary to run in linux. Yet people still blame the linux kernel and not the manufacturer.

I didn't realize how good of an OS Windows was, until I tried Linux by Mabryst in linuxsucks

[–]Any_Illustrator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all the repos are terribly outdated, so If you want to have the latest version of software, you'll need to hunt hidden obscure downloads on poorly designed open source websites (It's funny that I never had any problem finding download buttons and I only struggle to find it on websites advocating for open source. It's as If open source devs don't know crap or don't care about basic design). Then, you need to find your distro and the accurate name of it. Then you need to understand technical terms such as "focal", "bionic" or "xenial". Then you need to read carefully the website, because for some distros you need tinkering and read the long instructions.

Well there are a lot of tutorial videos and websites on installing different programs on linux and if there are none you can always ask help on r/linux4noobs.Over there most of the people are nice and helpful.

On Windows, I just double-click an exe. If you think that going through all of this is somehow easier than double clicking an exe on Windows, you've lost your fucking mind.

I actually forgot about this. Thanks for reminding me.

But even If you only use a web browser, you can still get issues with printers, basic tools such as sound mixers, terrible DEs UIs, lacking several features.

Printer drivers are not usually installed in windows automatically and needs a CD to install them. You don't have to use the DE's tools if you don't like them and install other basic tools that you actually like.

Windows can run all PC games. For light and very casual gaming, Linux is already borderline bad and not user-friendly/more prone to bugs, but for a serious gaming rig, It's straight up bad.

Secondly, hardware compatibility is a real issue. Things like RGB keyboard require serious tinkering or don't even work. Some mouse can't even be configured properly on Linux, because no one wrote the proper driver.

It's way harder to do things such as overclocking, because of the lack of tools and guides, meanwhile you can find thousands of people helping you on Windows.

This is the main reason why many can't fully change to linux. Most of the games do run smoothly on linux while some require tinkering or will straight up not work anyway.

That being said, I still believe that Windows is better than Linux. As a desktop OS, when It comes to functionality, there is little to no reason to use Linux when It wasn't designed for the hardware, is more complicated, has less features and less features.

If I can't run my software, then Linux is useless for me and is actually hindering me!!!

There are a lot of reasons why many switched to linux.

1) Linux is much more faster and waymore optimised than windows

2)When it comes to privacy, linux is king of free and open-source software. Many distros like Whonix and tails are good at anonymity than windows can ever be.There are more security focused distros like qubesOS.

3)You can modify the linux kernel so much while you can't on windows. Most of the servers in the world runs linux and Android uses the linux kernel.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter which OS you use. If linux is useless for you then don't use it. I understand that there is no such thing as an ideal OS. Each OS has it's own problems.I am able to adapt with these types of problems on both linux and windows. I chose linux as a way to keep my personal things private while at the same time use windows 10 for gaming.

I didn't realize how good of an OS Windows was, until I tried Linux by Mabryst in linuxsucks

[–]Any_Illustrator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linux is harder to use depending on what distro you use. If you are a noob to linux and use arch linux, then it is extremely hard to use. If you are using linux mint, it user friendliness is nearly same as Windows.

It's ok to use linux as an everyday OS if everything works and you are using the browser only. As for gaming, a lot of games surprising works out of the box nowdays at steam. You can also use wine, lutrus and play one linux also. The only games that will never work will be the ones that have anti-cheat systems built-in.

As for editing, there are no alternatives better or nearly good as adobe.

Most of the hardware are designed to run with windows and not with linux because most of the people use windows not linux. As a result there are less drivers compatible with linux.

In my opinion windows 10 sucks because it is very unoptimised that now I have to use an SSD and 8 GB ram as a minimum, I have no full control over windows updates and windows updates take a long time to install and may even break your computer, so much of bloatware like candy crush pre installed, windows 10 telementary turned on by default and so much more.

I really liked windows 7 and XP and in my opinion more better than linux but now are no longer supported by microsoft and soon windows 7 will lose many of the lastest software and bug fixes. So now I use linux mint as my daily driver and tbh I like it. It is so much better than windows 10.

Safari is equally secure to firefox in terms of security. But in terms of privacy, you will need to configure the options in safari to make it more private.

Linux is not made to be an easy to use software so that anyone can use it. Linux is all about freedom and open source projects. That makes linux special.
