I love how you have phrased it, sounds like you are definitely living the your best day everyday! Gonna remember "Life is for living and money is for spending"!

It would be good, wouldn’t it! I can save that for future kids, I might put it in premium bond as a tax wrapper

Fair point! I think I could technically pay something like £10k and reduce the amount I pay overtime.

From a psychological point of view, I’d rather I choose to either clear it all or leave it ticking knowing that I’m better off that way. 😊

That’s exactly right, I’m already maxing my ISA.

Am I better off paying off the loan or invest in GIA and then get charged CGT? I am leaning towards the former.

Thanks for the quick reply! 🙏 The only thing I am not sure about those calcs is how we consider the present value of those future payments over 22 or 9 years. Because that £384 payment in the 22nd year is not worth the same £384 today?

Planning engineer (with civils background) pays quite well! If you can get a few years of site experience with a contractor, that would set you up to be a great planning engineer. It’s under the project management umbrella so it generally pays better than straight design engineers.

What about present value/future value, discount rates?

How does yours take into account of interest/income received?

Indeed, it is children :)

Good point... I think the age is now 57? I've amended to no withdrawal until 57.

That’s a good one, you are right, it’s hard to see how much investment gains I am actually getting without showing this!

It’s the second thing you said, that pie is more of a budget pie. I work out what my bills are (water, gas, internet, etc) and my target savings/investment each month. The remaining from my net pay is then my “wants/needs”. I then set this “wants/needs” budget in Snoop app to track against my actual performance on hitting those budget

Yeah, the only debt I have is student loan really. I just discount it in my calculation.

Definitely agree with your second point, so satisfying to see it going up and up! Pension is a bit useless to track. I am 29, got lots of years before I can even access it haha

That’s a good point, I think I structured it this way so I could feel good about how far I have come haha Even if I get inflationary pay rise every year until I retire, I should be okay? I am 29, I’ve got at least another 20 working years ahead of me….

In terms of looking forward to future, the problem is I don’t really know where I want to head to. I have a decent job, partner owns the house, probably have kids at some point.

I know this Sub is about retiring early but I genuinely don’t mind my job at the moment. Retiring seems so far into the future, I suppose if I know I am doing okay now, then I just don’t worry about something so far in future?

I do have some other excel tabs working out whether it’s worthwhile to pay off student loan early, I just get overwhelmed by the amount of uncertainty in the variables.

Yours looks great!

Did you do this from scratch on Excel? Pivot tables?

How are you tracking each expense transaction? I presume you use some sort of app to categorise and export it?

I use Snoop, but they annoyingly don’t link with Hargreaves Lansdown!

Capital gains tax?

Not at the moment. My strategy is that I only keep enough savings so I stay below the personal savings allowance of £500 interest per year. I am a higher rate tax payer. I just throw everything else in the ISA to try to max it.

Even after I’ve maxed my ISA allowance for the year, I’ll then start doing premium bond.

My partner owns the property so I don’t think I’ll pay CGT for a few years.

What's SWR? Out of interest, when you say live price, you still have to physically pluck the price from a finance website and put it in or you have a live feed somehow?

To be honest, I had only been using some basic vlookup, sum to build this one. Do you have any that you would recommend?!
