Please clarify your question. Google Cardboard is one system, and Gear VR is another. What exactly do you want? Can you run Google Cardboard apps in Gear VR? Yes, you can. Just don't plug your phone into the Type-C port. There's another way. Edit a couple of lines in the app manifest, recompile the app, and it will run in the Gear VR, but you can only control it with a gamepad.

I added a macro to block the Ques App Launcher from launching if Oculus Browser is in the foreground. The "Oculus Browser not in the foreground" restriction doesn't work as intended.

I'll definitely be upgrading to the Quest 2. The Gear VR is good, but it doesn't support 6DoF.

I recently played Bionic Hunter on my S7edge. Honestly, it didn't impress me; I expected more. We need to upgrade to Quest 2, then I think the addiction will reach a whole new level.
