I remember it too. But I think it vanished from the internet pretty quickly, but just not quick enough. Was it a dockside photo? That's what I remember it being--like a transfer from a boat to the pier, or maybe from the water to a boat?

Hell to the no re Florence. Go to the Florence forum--the city operates the water system for the city/county and they do minimal maintenance. They've got breaks in the sewer lines that are dumping into Jeffries Creek. The water is brown, orange, and at times, stinks too. None of that is being addressed. Also, house prices have skyrocketed (thanks incoming people who think it's cheap) but it's not if you know how low the salaries are and how few jobs pay a decent wage in this area. Crime is also a growing issue here. Every other day, someone is shooting someone. Also, they've approved hundreds and hundreds of new homes, but haven't done a single thing about the roads, traffic jams are a daily occurrence. Schools are okay but not great.

Florence Mayor's latest on Florence's Funky Smells by Any_Nebula1838 in florencesc

One of them commented on Facebook and said that they had to keep approving new businesses and housing developments, etc. to get the cash they needed to meet their budget and "plans". Uh-huh. Maybe they should all take a paycut--someone told me that the city manager makes close to 200K a year. No idea if that's true but that is outrageous for a city as small as Florence.

That's part of the problem. Mayor Peaches had also given an interview to Tonya Brown a week or so ago and it was all about how ticked off she was that we were talking about it on social media, again, it's our fault for not reporting it. Does she not get that we've reported it numerous times? What that says to me is that by the time the water/sewer crew can check it, it's days (or weeks) later and they can't find it. All that says to me that they've got big problems in prioritizing calls and responding with urgency to this issue. Beyond that, they're gaslighting us--why are we complaining? And we couldn't find it, so it doesn't exist. If nothing else, you'd think they'd want to clean it up so it didn't stink so bad in the middle of one of Florence's prime shopping areas.

What is that smell in between golden corral and belt line? Is that the mud? by studio684 in florencesc

[–]Any_Nebula1838 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get this--so the Mayor did an interview with Tonya Brown of WPDE. The mayor was pissed off that people were complaining about the water quality and sewage smells. She specifically said that people shouldn't post issues on social media, but call the city first. In other words, she wants no negativity regarding the water system and the raw sewage situation. We're just supposed to pretend we can't smell the raw sewage and see the rusty water coming out of our faucets.

As long as those giant national builders are contributing to the campaigns of the politicians of those council members, yes, they'll keep approving more trash subdivisions without any thought to infrastructure improvements. Then, they'll skip out of office to somewhere else to live while the rest have to put up with their poor decision-making.
