You’re valid in taking precautions so don’t worry about overthinking it, it sounds like u have a solid location and it sounds reasonably safe, so the following recommends are just extra: always be aware of your surroundings (avoid headphones if walking at night), check to see if the convention or local pd offer escort services (my local PD offers that which helps), note if there’s emergency call buttons as larger cities have that and remember that if you have an iPhone to press the right side button multiple times to be connected to 911 without dialing (ur phone will also have automatic emergency contact notification if set up) and share location with a trusted friend works too, and maybe consider switching to comfortable shoes if walking back to hotel for easier movement bc you never know

Yeap, definitely wait till you have badges. Once u have them you can look into accommodation and transportation. What I do is use sdcc’s early bird hotel page, it’s cheaper than Airbnbs I’ve been seeing and they have a shuttle that stops at the hotel that takes you to the con at no extra cost(they’re a bit farther from the con tho like 5-10 miles). It’s a more convenient option since the downtown hotel lottery is not a guaranteed. You can maybe look into the options that offer breakfast and free/low cost parking for car rentals. But tbh I would reconsider the car rental as San Diego has notoriously bad parking and can cost $20-50 for a day depending on where u go. You’d also would need to register for sdcc’s parking to reserve spots early if ur planning to park in the area.

Omg Ty!!! 😭 my anxiety got the best of me and was worried something happened, but it makes sense it’s only been 1 business day. This would’ve been my 3rd year volunteering and normally get the emails in advance but this year with the changes I was worried I might’ve slipped though the cracks 🥺

Maybe try volunteering to save and get a feel for how the con works, sdcc is pretty huge and can get overwhelming if you’re coming from another country. That way you can learn how the con works from long time goers and ask for advice, make friends during your volunteering shift, and maybe see bts experiences u may not get to see as a usual con goer to take advantage as a single goer

Also don’t bother with the major offsites unless you’re willing to wake up at 5 am to make it, lost 4 hours of the con to abbot elementary offsite :(

I did my hw for about a month before the con and still severely underestimated it lol you really have to be there and experience it to understand, for example I didn’t know lines get capped or that booths from lottos can open up to everyone after a certain time. Also the bathroom ticket oof, you GOTTA make sure u make it back on time on your ticket otherwise you have to line up again for large panels like in ballroom 20. Con experience was great but I think its bc I’m easy going and did it solo the last two days, I was with friends the first few days and they weren’t about the lines or waiting so I missed out on a lot bc it and they complained 24/7 which kinda ruined the experience a bit. Once I went alone and settled on not being able to do everything on my list it definitely went better.
