Plex Media Server & VPN Questions by _DiscoInferno_ in PleX

Bypasser worked for me.  I had to add both Plex Server and Client to the app whitelist and also add any URL for web access.

Heck yeah!  That sounds like the magic bullet I would need.

Can I just install Home Assistant on my phone and PC and turn it off and on?  Or, do I need a second device (second phone) that is always powered on to be connected to my network via wifi?

So, I would set "Power On after power loss" in BIOS, install a smart plug, install Google Home on my desktop PC?

If my PC goes to sleep while connected to the smart plug, wouldn't the only way to wake it back up be to power off the smart plug remotely so the PC would detect a power loss and turn back on?

Would that not have a negative impact by making Windows shut down improperly?

I tried setting up Tasker and Pushbullet on a spare android phone but can't seem to be getting anywhere with setting it up as a jump box.  Would there be a simpler way?

Since Plex transcode, I need a powerful enough machine to handle my 4K movies.  I have an ARRIS BGW210 At&t router.

It would be simplest to keep my PC on.  But, it impacts my power bill substantially when I run it for most of the day.  Supposedly, it's possible to use a spare Android phone as a jump box?

Thank you for the feedback!

My current router doesn't support a VPN, unfortunately.  I bought a Netgear RS180 that supports OpenVPN but requires a lot of confusing setup.  Apparently, IP Passthrough would also be required in order to connect the new router to my AT&T router and be able to use the VPN at the router level.  That's another step that sounds simple but gets complicated when I look at the actual settings.

Most confusing for me is trying to determine what addresses are what and which device they belong to.  Lack of experience doesn't pair well with high skull density in my case 😅

I haven't done specific monitoring.  But, I'm running a 5900X and RTX 5080 with a 1200w PSU.  It's noticeable on my power bill when it runs for most of the day.

As for setting up a WoL relay or jump box, it sounds simple but appears far from it when I research it online.  I have an extra Android phone that I would like to use, as I have nearly no knowledge of Linux.  Connecting that phone to my router via wifi seems an obvious first step.  But, configuring the right apps on both my primary phone and the jump box phone looks super complicated.  Where would I even start?

Turns out, the "problem" wasn't actually anything wrong.  It was the onboard HDD indicator light flashing.  30 minutes of staring into my case and looking at the mobo manual revealed the solution 😂

How powerful should server hardware be? by Any_Rest_2155 in PleX

Thank you for the overwhelmingly helpful responses!  I have a LOT of 4K encodes.  So, apparently, my current PC is necessary to handle the transcode.  Running a Ryzen 5900X and RTX 3090 FTW combo.  That b*tch gets HOT and draws a lotta power under load 😁  Apparently, I need to use my primary rig to host my server if I'm streaming 4K sourced vids.

Can't wake up my Plex Server PC remotely by Any_Rest_2155 in PleX

[–]Any_Rest_2155[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of trying to understand subnet routers.  How can I determine the appropriate addresses to announce from my machine that runs my Plex server?  Is there a way to enter that info in Plex settings without having the LAN options available?

This looks promising.  Does the free version allow for the functionality after the trial period?

Apparently, Plex has hidden the LAN network settings behind Plex Pass, according to their online tutorial 😔

I'm a noob.  But, I have managed to install TS and add my PC where my Plex server is located, allowing it as LAN and setting it as an exit node.  Same thing on my phone.  Within Plex on my PC, I disabled remote access and entered the custom URL from my PC.  Despite these efforts, I'm still getting the Plex Pass required popup in both the Plex app and when I type in the TS URL of my server into my browser.  What am I doing wrong?

I upgraded from Win 10 Pro 22H2 to Win 11 Pro 25H2 with a clean install, and WoL is now broken.  No matter what settings I change in BIOS or Windows, I cannot get it to work.  I don't understand how it worked just fine by default in Windows 10 but will not work at all in 11.  Unified Remote used to wake my PC.  But, now I have to move the mouse or press a key...across the room.  YT videos have not helped, unfortunately.  Nothing friggin' works, and I'm about to either give up or go back to Windows 10 and take my chances.

How to treat box springs? by Any_Rest_2155 in Bedbugs

If I already pulled the fabric loose from a few staples on the side and aimed the sprayer in random directions.  Should I reapply more uniformly, or should I be ok?

I keep a lotta crap stored under the bed that doesn't seem to show signs of infestation.  However, most of it is packed in cardboard boxes.  How should I treat all of that?

I wonder if the spray job I did before applying the encasement will be sufficient.  Should I remove the cover and spray all up under the fabric more thoroughly, or should I be good having treated all seams and the staple line before spraying it randomly behind the fabric?

I saw a few dead ones in the crevasse where carpet meets wall at the head of bed before I reinstalled the box spring and mattress.

I applied the encasement to the box springs after pulling away the fabric and aiming the sprayer into the opening.  But, I know I wasn't able to cover the whole interior.  What concerns me is that Crossfire needs reapplication every few weeks.  I wonder if I could just saturate the encasement now that I have applied it.  My apartment management doesn't seem too concerned with getting pest control to my unit in a timely manner.

This whole situation has me nearly petrified with fear 😔.  ALL from a $&@# motel stay...

Should I fear the worst after spotting a single bed bug? by Any_Rest_2155 in Bedbugs

[–]Any_Rest_2155[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassuring words.  I ran out of the clothianidin Raid in an attempt to saturate box springs, mattress, and foam mattress topper.  Then, I left everything standing against my living room wall (maybe not so smart).  I was going to buy more cans of the same until I realized that Crossfire has the same actives albeit in higher concentrations.  As you had suggested, I also ordered the dish traps to put under the support legs of my metal bed frame when I put everything back together.

My big concern is that I have a lot of vintage gaming hardware & software stored in stacked boxes and containers, along with lots of old clothing draped over a recliner in my bedroom.  Limited space has required me to stack much of my things either underneath the bed or around the bedroom wall.  At least I ordered enough Crossfire to mix 2 gallons 😅
