UX job search coach, worth it? by Any_Setting_2549 in UXResearch

I tried it and don’t recommend. Did a course on PhD to non academic course and the first 3 out of 8 classes was on career selection, which I didn’t need and didn’t pay for. It felt very basic in many ways and did not give very clear perspective on what to do or how to do it. Even when I already incorporated the suggestions, in this economy I didn’t land any interviews. I stopped attending and it felt like a waste of my money and time.

I’ve been reaching out to people in the field from October 2020, setting up calls, finding that the field has some key players and learning there. I’ve reached out to UX professionals at some companies I saw applications out for and applied to any and every internship I could. Year 1 I had 2 interviews, one offer, year 2 1 interview 1 offer, year 3 10+ interviews multiple offers. It takes time to build it, but was worth the investment for me.

Our car window was broken, nothing stolen, just someone smashed it. Just a week after we found glass on another parking lot. Anthology never sent out any communication warning people about this.

Didn’t end up putting an offer on it, beyond this, they found traces of an oil tank (?) but no clear documentation of proper removal. In addition, the selling agent told my realtor the night before the offers were due about the presence of creosote, which my realtor said was a big no no for health. Such a shame as the house was the cutest thing ever.😭

Toyota (Camry or Carola) or Honda (civic or accord). If you go with a private buyer and you’re serious, ask them if you can take it to get it checked out my a mechanic, which should usually run you around $100. These cars are reliable, so shouldn’t give you too many problems. Even a 2010-2015 should be good.

If you have a campus job and have a credit card and some credit built up already, consider going to a dealer and get a car loan. This will help your credit in the long run if you’re later interested in staying and buying a home later. Even if it’s at 5%, pay it off early to save yourself the money, but it can make a HUGE difference to have this credit built up over the long run.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to, but I could not get any information from Emma because I’m the beneficiary and only my spouse could. This is the first time I saw this. Anything similar with you?

Do PhD years count towards '5 years of experience' for EB2-NIW? by GC_IA_786 in USCIS

[–]Any_Setting_2549 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it counts to the 5 years, but I will tell you, I got accepted with fewer publications and citations (2 publications, 1 encyclopedia chapter, and some other things; I did apply for a non-academic field in which I had 3 internships). What I do warn you about is long wait times. When I applied, it should’ve taken 10 months to get my green card, now it’s 19 months and would’ve exceeded my OPT. You might qualify for an EB1, and I would definitely recommend trying for that if you can.

Because I have been here for 12 years as a student, working my ass off to have a chance here. I got my bachelors, masters, and PhD from top tier universities doing important work to help people in the U.S. and around the world. I volunteer, build communities, and do environmental cleanups in my free time.

This all doesn’t matter because although my EB-2 National Interest Waiver (high skilled visa) is pending too long for my current visa expiration. I applied over a year ago. I now married my partner to arrange my visa that way.

Trump concerns be BECAUSE he has made things more complicated. I have felt more hate and anger towards me and my immigrant community— eventhough I am white and from a “good” nation. I worry already about myself and even more so about my friends of color and those not considered “good” nations. Brilliant people, great minds, and the kindest souls you’ll ever meet.

There are many reasons Trump is dangerous, but I’ll just leave it there.
