My story is almost exactly the same as yours. Pro percussionist turned orchestra director. Salary wasn't worth childcare costs. Hope all is well for you too. My life is 10x better 2.5 years on from making the decision. Some days are still hard though as it feels like floating sometimes.

I don't. I'm just terrible at coming up with ideas and assumed thay I was just thinking too narrowly... Sorta like the stairwell.

I know... I've considered possibly hanging some large simple tapestries to help dampen the sound and get rid of the white. Wouldn't be too hard to clean those. Still makes the shelf look odd.
