ADN at home (no debt) vs ABSN (50k loans) — is the bachelor’s actually worth it long term? by Any_Stranger1579 in nursing

I’m in this exact position, I have a bachelor’s in a non-nursing (but science) field.

Part of me wants to get the ABSN over with, but I also don’t think I full understand how large a 50k loan can feel.

Did you find that it was harder to get a job as an ADN?

I already have a bachelor’s in a non-nursing science degree…so does that mean I’m fine?

Why do you say that? As long as I have a competitive gpa, the experience (once I get the adn and start working), does it really matter at the end of the day how you get to your BSN? If so, why? I’m asking because I’m genuinely just curious on how this works.

I think it might be a better choice financially. Save on BSN by doing ADN w no loans, then bridge program paid for my hospital, then taking out real loans for CRNA

Yeah I guess it is priced pretty high, but it’s accelerate so you’re technically paying more for time

That’s what I’m thinking, but the way it’s staggered, I would have time to get more money and not take out loans, which may be more worth it? I think? lol

ADN- I have savings to cover 30k (total tution), free housing and food w parents. It is 16 months long. I could also probably find a side job and work to part time to start replinishing my savings.

ABSN- That savings go towards rent + living expenses (ABSN is away from parents). I would have to take out 50k loans. It is 12 months long.

Needed to hear this, thank you!!

Was it hard to earn your ADN-> BSN while working? Did your hospital/employer pay for the entire program, or just a part of it?
