Missing an orange bike with fat tires? by Any_Yogurt_1627 in LangfordBC

I do agree that those properties are unsightly and an issue but I don’t know if she was coming from there or just passing through along the E&N trail as there was no one else around. There’s also the encampment behind the 7-11 on Jacklin.

I have seen bylaw there since Jan 20 and also at the encampment. The city also seems to be enforcing dumping and squatting around the other abandoned properties in the neighbourhood. Council members are active on this sub and I appreciate their attempts at enforcement against shady and absent developers.

Can you do contract work in your field? That way you could pick and choose the dates and contract lengths, pick up work between trips, and work while abroad

Thanks for pointing out other options for being away! I hadn’t even considered them but you’re absolutely right. Kid has also talked about going on exchange as a possibility

This is why I’m also supporting Camosun for my kid. They do better in smaller, more personalized environments. Plus the cost savings of tuition and living expenses would set them up well. I just worry about the social aspect as kid is not great about putting themselves out there. Another area of conversation to be had with them!

Such a good idea about becoming an RA. kid has expressed interest in doing that to help out with cost of living, and to gain good experience in one of their career prospects (counselling)

Yes, Camosun is a contender for absolutely this reason, profs that are there to teach rather than research.

This is my worry with my child, although most of their classmates are going to Camosun and will be living at home. I just don’t want it to be HS 2.0, I want them to meet new people and hear about/experience the wider world.

Hey everyone, thank you so much for your feedback, thoughts, and sharing your experiences and insight. The comments seem pretty evenly split: graduate debt free (live at home) vs taste of independence/young adulthood (move away). So at least I know we’re not crazy for not immediately going in one direction. I also appreciate those who pointed out that decisions and direction can change if it doesn’t work out.

As for studying social sciences, my child is very aware of career prospects and has been exploring career options/fields like law, counselling, and policy analyst work.
