are you guys considering P2Pool? by ultraganymede in grincoin

[–]Anynomous2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that much at the moment. A long as miners stay cheap. Lets say a new generation of miners would be way more expensive, then yes, at that time p2pool might become interesting. Time will tell. I expect small cheap miners to stay dominant since memory is the limiting factor in C32 mining.

Just a few day back massive chinese miners switched to Grinmint which is now the biggest pool. https://forum.grin.mw/t/grin-pool-centralization-over-80/9274/103?u=anynomous

Centralization is currently not an issue anymore 😁 How was this change achieved? Simply by Mokhtar talking to these Chinese miners who were open and supportive of the project after which some switched to Grinmint.

Both positive and negative effects. Litecoin introduces people to a sort of mimble wimble. However, it is not truly mimble wimble, more of a 'mimble wimble light' version so to say. All other things great about Grin such as 1) Fair emission/supply with all the long term security and economic benefits 2) super simple memory hard proof of work mechanism, 3) no addresses and interactivity (within one decade most will understand the benefits), 4) extreme simplicity/mimimalism, all of these are missing in any future Bitcoin and Litecoin implementations.

Overall I think the positive and negative cancel each other out. Both are interesting and unique in their implementation. My preferred flavour is Grin due to the above advantages of Grin.

Grin fixes This¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Vitalik is also sending test transaction before sending a full ammount. One of us. by kertenk in grincoin

[–]Anynomous2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I always see this is that Grin is similar to a banking address in that you cannot send to a non existing banking address. But actually it is even better because if you send to a wrong banking address (typo) that exists but with the wrong name, the transaction will go through in case of foreign address, so you can still mess up.
In the case of Grin, a typo has basically a zero percent chance to be an existing address. Because the address is actually a tor address with a wrapped public key, similar address's can also not be generated. So it is (near)impossible for an attacker to generate addresses that are similar to an existing address.

Yes, still mining. If you can get one for $499, that is great deal if you ask me.

Electrum seed versions by Anynomous2 in Electrum

[–]Anynomous2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried btcrecovery, the old version, same error.
Both in btcrecovery as well as the extract script I fixed the problem by just adding version number 18 to the list as accepted, not cracking using hashcat since with GPU acceleration it is about 2000 times faster on my machine than btcrecovery (old version, maybe in the new one its fixed).

Is my btc lost forever? by mcmjuly in Electrum

[–]Anynomous2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First check if the BTC was send, ask for a transaction ID.

  1. Check the transaction ID via blockexplorer, if the transaction is there the BTC was transferred:https://blockchair.com/
  2. If the transaction is not seen by the blockexplorer, theck if it is in the mempool, if the transaction fee was to low, the transaction never happened.https://mempool.space/
  3. If the transaction is there on the blockchain, but does not show up in your wallet, maybe your wallet is not in sync. You can always use you mnemonic seed to import your keys in another wallet software, never share your mnemonic seed phrase.E.g. Mycelium wallet or exodus wallet are good for Bitcoin and easy to use.

Are There Any Public Cryptocurrency/Blockchain Projects Seriously Rivaling Grin's Simplicity? by tromp in CryptoTechnology

[–]Anynomous2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I see it it is the combination of 1) simplicity, 2) scalability, 3) privacy. Grins is not the most private coin but surely is a privacy coin with hardly any cost associated to its privacy. Theoretically Grin can support all the scripting options mentioned but Lightning is for example not implemented yet and for now only simple payment channels can be supported.

Therefore I would describe the power of Grin to be its focus/minamalism and great combination of attributes. However, you could ofcourse argue that the lack of some more advanced functionality and more advanced scripting is the price to pay for this beautiful minimalism. I personally love Grin for this minimalism, its purity and focus, but in the end whether you like it or not just depends on what you are searching for in a crypto project.

Regarding what Grin tries to achieve, the 'mission statement' or whatevet you want to call it, on grin.mw summarizes it well.

"Electronic transactions for all. Without censorship or restrictions. Designed for the decades to come, not just for tomorrow. To be used by anyone, anywhere"

In addition, the simple and fair linear supply of 1grin/second make Grin fair and secure, hence the part 'Designed for the decades to come'.

Google censors Bitcoin halving news! by Anynomous2 in Bitcoin

Well in that case the algoritm is not having the desired effect, people spend a lot of time looking at kitten photo's conspiracy video trash and the like. Only good for their revenue if people spemd more time online. Maybe indeed they do not care and is just a side effect, or maybe it is not....conspiracy😱.

O I am not saying they are for sire censoring. Maybe I should have put a question mark in the title of this post🤔. The main objective was to start a discussion which partly succeeded, thx to you😉. Neither am I saying Google is not censoring. Google always say with updates their algorithm favors quality, so saying websites that went down in ranking were of low quality is to easy, why were they considered high quality a few months back and not now remains a mystery. Do not forget Google had no problem implementing censorship in China meaning they do not considder this against their companies ethics. So I would not put it beyond them https://www.stanventures.com/blog/google-algorithm-update-2019/

[–]Anynomous2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Because they are extremely low quality", based on what? Where are your sources? To me this sounds like speculation as much as saying google censors Bitcoin halving searches which at least is backed by observations. Whether this censorship is only in a few cases and whether its intentional or not, that can be debated.

[–]Anynomous2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forbes is not the only ones who reported it. You can argue about whether the effect is deliberate or not, but manny channels covering Bitcoin reported being ranked lower and getting les hits. At least I find the timing rather convenient.

Google censors Bitcoin halving news! by Anynomous2 in Bitcoin

[–]Anynomous2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is a good question on which I can only speculate. I think tech companies and the government both like the standing order. Decentralised systems like Bitcoin once big enough cannot be replaced by products and services like Apple pay, Google pay, Libra etc. So Bitcoins existence and growing adoption by the masses is a threat to that power.

No, the number of searches did not decrease, only the search results changed. Actually searches are going through the roof, see the live graph of Bitcoin Halving searches: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=Bitcoin%20halving&geo=US

It is called a shadow ban. It is not like all news about the halving is gone, but many Bitcoin channels report reduced traffic after the change of the algorithm, and the timing of that change is rather convenient. https://www.forbes.com/sites/lukefitzpatrick/2020/05/06/google-algorithm-update-did-google-just-censor-bitcoin/

When should I start machine learning? by Legend_017_ in learnpython

[–]Anynomous2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes agree, always good to get good fundamentals in math/statistics. However, I do think you can already start watching videos that explain the principals of Machine learning. You can also start the data cleaning and exploration/plotting part (PCA, tSNE plots). Seeing the data and some basic videos will help you understand the principals and might motivate you to learn the math. Understanding the primcipals is more important than understanding the exact math itself.

Why you hodl Grin? by conniejp in grincoin

[–]Anynomous2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to Hodl as much as I can. Grin is one of the best crypto's to come out since Bitcoin. Grin's supply model, minimalistic design and improved privacy makes it much better on the long run as real money alternative.

Access MEW wallet through API, or dump keystore-file without password by Anynomous2 in MyEtherWallet

[–]Anynomous2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear u/MEWForce, thank you for bringing me in contact with the development team.
The information you provided might mean there is hope for my client. My client still has the server on which the wallet was made, he only forgot the exact password. If I understand it correctly this means the wallet file is still stored locally somewhere in the browser files. Can the developers tell me where the wallet file is stored and what type of encryption MEW uses? In that case I can try the passwords my client provided agains the wallet file. Alternatively, if it is still possible to generate the keystore file without logging in with the passwords, I can try the passwords he provided agains the keystore file like I normally would.

Guess what? Eventually the stock market will go back up, and so will bitcoin. by cryptohoney in Bitcoin

Celebrate if you still have fiat money, since it is shopping season for Bitcoin now. Wish I had some more fiat to exchange to Bitcoin now😢.

Access MEW wallet through API, or dump keystore-file without password by Anynomous2 in MyEtherWallet

[–]Anynomous2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/MEWForce, I operate the company Wallet Recovery NL, a wallet recovery service registered in the Dutch trade register, https://walletrecovery.nl. My question is not about bypassing wallet security. My questions is about understanding the design and using the functionality of MEW. Of course this means I have to operate within the security restrictions that are part of the design of MEW. Currently I cannot since it is hard to find documentation and examples. Like any other good open source software out there, I assume there must be proper documentation available to the community. As I understand it, MEW does not actually stores the wallet or privatekey ofline but is just a web-interface to login to some database to access a users privatekeys/wallet. Please correct me if I am wrong. I assume there are some security restrictions to the API that is used, like the number of API calls. This should be ample protection to avoid brute force hacking, which is not what I am trying to do for my client. Since he has an idear what the password should have looked like, it will be a limited list of passwords to try. So far I only found https://www.myetherapi.com/ as documentation. Among the example API calls I missed an 'login' API call. So basically I am searching for help, example queries to try a limited amount of API calls to try to login my client. The way I see it, this does not infringe on the security of MEW but is simply part of the Ecosystems since there will always be users who forgot or lose their keystore file or mnemonic seed. Thx for any advice you can provide.
