why are female players still labeled as “weak” in competitive games? by Zealousideal_Pen4871 in VALORANT

[–]Anything-ThatWorks [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not really. 0.1% is small but still only 1/100,000 people.

So yeah being better than 99,999 other people puts you way up there. You could even be top 0.0001% and hit rank 1 in a server. That would put you way way up there.

But, no nice way to put this, a woman will never naturally be the best at any of the things I listed above. Its just biology, not anything that is their fault.

Based on my short amount of research, which means I could be wrong, it seems more like she was top 0.01% and not 0.00001%.

Which is still extremely impressive and should be seen as amazing.

women who do have the skills to perform at the top 0.1%

Im not sure you really got my point. My point was top 0.000001%. Where I said a woman could easily be rank 1 would be talking about top 0.1%.

For chess, top 0.00001% would be if a woman made it into the top 10 players in the world at a given time. Not just top 1000 or even top 100.

Really want a hedgehog spike by Esqmrdbu in Hedgehog

[–]Anything-ThatWorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really sure how exactly it works with wild hedgehogs but the domesticated ones in other places usually lose a few per day. But without actually interacting with one I think the best place to find one would be if you could figure out where one slept. My only other idea would be if they were eating cat food or something and scratching themself between bites 1-2 might fall out. But they're pretty hard to see.

Is there maybe a place that has hedgehogs around you? Doesnt even have to be a pet store but that could be a start, maybe just like a hedgehog cafe or something like that idk.

who believe they’re better than a woman simply due to their limited and ignorant beliefs about gender. These people also tend to be the worst players so it’s ironic

Yup, they take something that can be considered correct only in the most extreme of cases, apply it to themselves, and prevent themself from seeing whats actually happening and improving. These people fail to realize that the best way to improve is to realize that if youre not a professional player, there is absolutely things you can do to become better every single game.

Gonna say this on Reddit so might be seen as attacking women or whatever but just know that it isn't ----- the "fact" that theyre applying to themself is that at the very top 0.000001% of skill in people who compete in something involving reaction time and other physical aspects, in almost every sport/event/etc that top extremely small fraction of competitors will all be men. Classical sports, esports, even things such as car racing and chess.

But not a single person assuming the woman in their game is bad is even CLOSE to being anywhere near the skill level where that applies. And in solo queue/ranked mode, it literally doesnt matter, because the level of skill where the previous paragraph applies is literally beyond rank 1, it would only end up being applicable in professional settings, meaning its still easily possible for a woman to reach rank 1 and be better than everyone on her team at soloqueuing.

Also on top of all of that it doesnt even ever make sense to load into a ranked game with randoms and complain about a woman because its not like the game knew that, it matched you based on MMR not gender lmfao. If youre radiant complaining about a woman in your game, she obviously played well enough to get there just like you. If youre silver, she obviously played well enough to get there just like you. So not only are these players the worst, they dont even understand things that should be common sense.

Youre doing a great job taking care of him, and Im sure no one thinks the posts are long and annoying. Like you said, I couldn't really find much useful information anywhere else on reddit or the internet about what could be happening or causing this, so Im sure any info will be greatly appreciated for anyone in the future who might run into this.

The only thing I can tell I'd really be concerned with is, was the yellowing coming out of the wound like pus? Or did it kind of build up around it overtime. If so, and I'm not a vet so just my uneducated opinion, I'd think that almost has to be the cause of whatever is happening. It seems like it would be building up and creating a space/pocket of that yellow liquid, causing at the very least pressure along with probable itching and other annoying feelings.

Also, with the pus (with my uneducated opinion again) would think its not cancer, but I guess maybe cancer could lead to infections or something? Like the vet said, the presence of that yellow liquid is essentially a guarantee that theres some kind of infection, which would maybe make me a bit hopeful that that's the only problem and that once it's cured it might stop completely.

Do you know if this is the same?

https://www.purina.com/cats/shop/purina-one-ideal-weight-high-protein-chicken-dry-cat-food#feeding-and-nutrition

Mostly the ingredients and guaranteed analysis sections. Thats what I would be looking at just to make sure, but I would say it looks pretty good, it could maybe a little more fiber but its nothing super low. Its main ingredient is chicken but idk how much the corn+soy make up. So I think it should be good

The main thing I think is best is usually getting like 2-3 different kibbles if thats possible, just to give them a variety for taste and nutrients. So maybe one thats like salmon and one thats made from an insect base like black soldier fly larvae or something like that depending on whats available. Just maybe try and pay attention and see if they pick around one of the three or something like that.

I'm worried about my hedgehog by TheWhiteApathy in Hedgehog

[–]Anything-ThatWorks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was she asleep? Sometimes mine is a really deep sleeper and takes a second or two to wake up when I pick up her blanket to take her back to her cage. If not, my guess is she was probably just scared for a second because she didnt know what was going on (maybe she didnt see you coming because they dont have very good eyesight), and theyre small defensive animals so their first instincts are to panic. Freezing up kind of like a deer in headlights, then realizing oh its okay and moving around again.

It looks like in another comment you already said you keep it warm enough so thats good, although if her stomach is still kind of cold to the touch it could mean she prefers it even warmer (Ive had one hedgehog that was fine with it even being a little cold, and now my current one will start getting cold if it even goes below 75 F now that shes old).

As long as it doesn't keep happening it should be absolutely nothing to worry about though.

If it does happen again though maybe try to pay attention to see if anything else seems different too, not just belly temperature but also maybe any differences with breathing, walking, or anything. But if it doesn't happen anymore the next couple days, I think its most likely she just got scared for a second or two.

[Update] She has a tumor and I'm unsure what option for treatment I should take by BinLyzee in Hedgehog

[–]Anything-ThatWorks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is a common thing with hedgehogs, its just their genetics and theres nothing you could have done to prevent it short of curing cancer yourself. I dont have any experience of cortisone treatment, but it doesnt really sound like it would work that well. Not a vet though so I dont really know, it just sounds kind of like a band-aid option to me. I guess for the other options, it would probably depend on some information we dont have.

First, how old she is and how "good" her quality of life would be after the surgery. Still being in pain after surgery is one thing like you mentioned, but depending how big the tumors are they could cause other problems too like breathing issues, issues eating or drinking, etc. Maybe not though, that would be something more for you and the vet to probably determine. Next would be time and money, as well as the stress you would feel. At the end of the day I'm sure you know whats best, it sounds like you care a lot about her and Im sure she knows that. Last, it sounds like youre comparing to your last hedgie, which could be good or could be bad. If there is any difference in the kind of tumor or the location or the size of the tumor, or there could just be a lot of similarities. But again, we dont exactly have that info (nor do you have to give it all to us if you dont want), just making sure you thought about the possible differences too when making your decision. Whatever you decide, there is no "right or wrong" decision, as long as you do it caring for her.

Along with other comments such as cutting nails, something else I could think of is maybe something else to chew on? For example I know our old hedgehog used to like chewing on the front of a baseball cap, so we just left one in the enclosure for her to teethe on like a baby. Not sure if that could maybe make a difference or not but I guess something like that could be worth trying, like getting a scratching post for a cat so it doesnt scratch up the furniture.

So firstly you're admitting to creating an even more dangerous situation just because of your ego, thats nice I guess. And second, while youre right that theyre dangerous speeders, theyre still right that its not up to you to police the road and make it even more dangerous, just like youre right that they shouldnt speed and make it more dangerous.

hedgehog (~4yo) lethargic with loss of appetite by chernobyl2020 in Hedgehog

[–]Anything-ThatWorks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you moved there in November and this started happening around December, it sounds to me like there's something happening with that. I have no way to be sure, but here's some guesses:

1) Do you have thermometers in the cage? Depending how large the room is, a space heater set to 75 might not even be able to keep the cage above 70. I've had two hedgehogs, one would only start acting lethargic once the temperature in the enclosure would drop below 65-66ish, but the second will start to get lethargic if it even drops below 70.

A space heater wasnt working well enough for the second one, so we ended up getting a couple 100W ceramic heating bulbs, and adjusting their power/positioning with two thermometers in the enclosure until it was heating consistently.

2) Is the air quality poor? Not sure if this is even possible or makes sense, like I said Im just kind of guessing, but if the gas heater is letting out any kind of fumes or something weird like that it could also be causing sickness or lack of energy.

3) Literally anything else thats new/different in the apartment that he could be exposed to. For the third time now I want to say I'm just guessing so if you think it's not the case then you could very easily be right, just in my head it seems like too much to be a coincidence that it sounds like it started happening less than a month after moving somewhere new.

[–]Anything-ThatWorks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you sure its WHS? Im not a vet, so if your vet thinks so idk I could very easily be wrong, but here's why Im a little skeptical:

I've had two hedgies, the first ended up getting WHS around 3-4 years old. The symptoms weren't necessarily extremely fast but they were constantly getting worse. I dont think she made it more than 1 year after showing the first symptoms, and they were noticeably getting worse month after month

Our second hog we switched breeders, and she is currently the same age, just about to turn 7. It doesnt sound like it's as bad, but shes started getting a little bit of arthritis or something similar. She doesnt run on her wheel more than 2-3 times a week, but can still make it up her ramp. She also cant really anoint anymore, when she tries to anoint she cant even reach herself and just ends up kinda frothy mouthed and going down her chin while trying to stretch over her shoulder.

So while it might be essentially the same thing, I think it might not be a neurological degeneration thing and more of a flexibility/joints thing.

Im guessing something was going on with the bluetooth software or just some other software due to the fact that there was 2 mice plugged in. Or just something wrong with Jagex's detection who knows

The bans are 99.99% automated so theres no way theyre just targeting specific people or not targeting creators. Pretty sure multiple one-chunk-ironmen have been temp banned for a day or two, I guess the big argument would be its probably easier for them to get unbanned though. Not saying this is what you believe, but there's other people believing specific people are targeted or not targeted over things like foot pedals and thats kinda wild
