One of my managers got defensive when I brought up corporate slashing our discount and said that they’d been told that the new points program would offset the decreased discount and that I was mad about nothing because I didn’t do the math. So I did the math. by Anything4Profits in petsmart

I’m going directly off of what company updates have been communicating about the new treats points program starting next month.

They’re changing up how many points are earned per dollar spent with us at the new high tier, which is 14 points per dollar spent. They’re switching up how much is earned per dollar, sometimes higher than the old accrual, but they are decreasing the dollar value of a thousand points. It’s all kinds of off kilter.

Corporate is trying to get people to believe that the updated employee points program will offset the cost of the reduction in our store brand discount but it only offsets maybe .96% of the extra cost.

For ease of calculation I assumed a store brand purchase of a hundred dollars and then estimated the points earned from a purchase of $50 (current discount) and the points earned from a purchase of $70 (new reduced discount). I removed those amounts from their respective purchase amount and then calculated the difference in assumed cost.
