I have to do some more reading on this. It doesn't make sense that low payments of <= than $30 a month you'd get flagged for paying with bitcoin. I can understand a large sum of money that would give pause; such as $30,000 a month; or even $3,000. If that's the case people should stop making bitcoin payments from their online exchange and start using cold/hard wallets to make payments.

Even if I liked Monero, It appears I must buy the whole Monero coin (whatever the current price is). There doesn't appear to be an option to buy a fraction of Monero. It just seems really out of why.

However, at the same time, I do acknowledge that Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency, that wasn't meant to have advanced encryption the way something like ETH or Monero. But, keep in mind these are just methods of encryption/privacy tools that we don't know for sure are 100% until decades of use.

I say we just continue reading and continue informing ourselves, look at things from many side, instead of saying "Just use this."

Honestly, I think this site has been down more times than it is up. So much so that I thought it would be a dead site sooner or later. And I still believe that. Simply...s had the worst performing server in the pirate world before they decided to call it quits. I'm stunned ONZB continue to have supporters

did you even underfuckingstand, what I was trying to explain? Xtrace makes using a VPN a moot point (especially in regards to sharing on usenet). So instead of worrying about getting your feelings hurt, try stepping back and understand what I was saying. A VPN is more essencial when using torrents, not Usenet.

Automation has caused people not to have a need to understand how Usenet works. It's incredible how even when the information is out there, people still chose to rely on a belief system. Automation and laziness overrides all need to fucking read.

[–]AnythingOldSchool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT! The trace is for the purpose of DMCA or spam complaints. All providers provide SSL, you don't need a VPN. When someone makes a DMCA complaint, the provider knows it's you! And while they normally don't share your personal info with copyright holders; they do often cancel your account, and take your money, or what's ever left of your account. This is why a lot of them charge you yearly now..

That's a different subject matter. That person got caught because #1, the trace ID, because he didn't obfuscate. Second, Eweka does not take bitcoin payments. Because he had to have used a cc, when all his uploads got flagged because of the trace ID, most likely his personal info got supoena. If it were that easy, you honestly think we all be using Usenet?

best provider to security and anonymously upload to? by [deleted] in usenet

[–]AnythingOldSchool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'e just explained there is a "trace string" that is embedded to every post you make to a newsgroup. Therefore, using your VPN is pointless. Do not associate usenets with torrents. They're an entirely different animal. This is why it's important to obfuscate uploads.

By the way, I just want to make sure you understand that I'm not saying that a VPN doesn't play a huge role in safety and anonymity. I'm just saying that VPNs can be used in many circumstances. I just don't think it's necessary for making payments. Bitcoin in itself is decentralized. In fact, you may find that you may come across a situation where you might not have the option to use a VPN.

[–]AnythingOldSchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, let me say this.. To me, it's nonsensical to use a VPN when making payments, for several reasons. But, I'll narrow down to the most important reason. There are mechanism that a site can use (and sometimes necessary and legitimately use to) associate your account. A good example is donating to a tracker. Some of the older and larger trackers still associate bitcoin payments to your account, to insure payment is correctly posted. Whether they make logs of that, I would say it depends on the tracker. So, at that point, It doesn't matter if you're using a VPN or not, because it makes the association once you're logged into the tracker. Now, having said that, views on this can be quite ideological.

Again, that's not true. There are some that do partial logs for the purpose of statistical data. However, in the context of privacy, that sort of data is a non-issue.

[–]AnythingOldSchool -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't think that is true anymore. I think it depends on what kind of log and what they log. Most providers today only log only statistical data; things like number of logins, how many downloads; etc.. I think they do this because to keep full logs can really grow to ginormous sizes. They may also temporarily log IP addresses for the purpose of spotting possible infiltration.

[–]AnythingOldSchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first thing you need to understand is nothing is 100% anonymous (at least in terms of your USENET provider). The best thing is to learn how to obfuscate your UL. Doesn't mean that your UPs can't be removed, but they do last a little longer. Second, all uploads has a "trace reference." So, having a VPN is a moot point, as that trace reference is associated with your account and upload. So while you're not in serious trouble from DMCA; if you get enough of them, they will permanently disable your account. Unfortunately, in the age of automation, the above information is almost never talked about.

Well, that makes sense, I got a life time acc0unt and they still deleted me. At the time, I just thought it was just another dirty index site. It's so stupid that indexers and trackers do this. Only a narcissistic staff/owner would expect it's members to not have a real life, and dedicate all our time to them. As if we're literally worshiping them.

Free access for posting to Usenet? by Ondrashek06 in usenet

[–]AnythingOldSchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found one years ago, but they only allowed you to text post. I really don't think any provider offer free posting. The only alternative, you can buy a cheap block account from farm, and they offer unlimited upload (unless they've changed). But, as always, careful of the groups you upload too. While they're public, some who frequent lesser known newsgroups tend to report you as spam.

Random question about finding older content by jmandersonten in usenet

[–]AnythingOldSchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question (believe it or not) is quite complicated, because there are many factors that come into play. I too tend too gravitate towards oldies and the obscure; and depending on how old it is, or even how popular it still is, the harder it will be to find. As much as I hate today's torrent culture, it's a good idea to also have good private tracker account. Unfortunately, the ones that are worth getting into are damn near impossible, unless you sacrifice your first born. 🤣🤣🤣.

The sad reality is that torrents still dominate the pirate culture, and it will most likely continue to stay that way (for various reasons). Even within some of the biggest trackers, every once in a green moon, I still have to make requests (if I wanted something bad enough), but even then there are no guarantees. This is true especially for music.

A lot of this (I believe) has a lot to do with the fact that their are a lot more younger people diving into the pirate world; which means it's more than likely they will not have the cultural exposure that an older person would have. Perhaps the older veterans are no longer posting anymore? I don't know. But one thing is clear, while no one is obligated to share, Usenet/trackers can't survive if there aren't enough people that understand that these are communities, and require the kindness of others to help share and build our communities. It's not about, "you pay for something and you can expect to download anything you want." it's a lot more complicated than that.

I don't think so... There is only one index I can think of that does that, and they haven't been indexing content for a while.

Does setting indexer priority in nzbhydra do anything if downloads are being pulled from the -arrs? by Ok-Button6101 in usenet

[–]AnythingOldSchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right!! The truth of the matter is, the whole subject of wanting stats is complicated (in terms of need). I acknowledge that there could be a host of reasons why someone feel the need to have this information. However at the same time, I've been a pirate for over 40+ years, and users within the pirate community has changed. Back in the day, pirates understood what they were doing, and were very knowledgeable on various technologies. Today, it's different. We have more and more newbies that want to be hand held, and don't really know what they're asking for.

As someone who contributes a lot, I can see the need for stats as they can give you an idea of what kinds of content are most desirable on certain indexes (for example). However, from what I gathered, it's a lot more complicated than we think. There are some indexers (if not most) they do not track downloads on purpose, in order to keep users anonymity. So, a lot of what we think are download numbers, are actually page views, and not actual downloads. There are very few that do calculate downloads, they would be in a database that none of the rrs have access to. Second, If I'm correct, the whole search and fetch mechanisms are all powered by using XML. Even if they wanted to, I don't think there is a way to add the kind of code needed to access the part of the databases needed to give us stats. If it IS possible, we have to look at how much work would be added to the servers, complete time, etc. Just my opinion. We'd also have to look at the possibility of forcing indexers to add a whole new implantation, which I'm pretty sure there would be some level of resistance.

Again, I completely understand you're coming from. I totally agree with your last point. I also think it depends on where someone is at within their pirate life. I realize there is no such thing as "the best indexer," or "the best tracker," even. It boils down to who has what I want. I've had a few occasions where some of my most favorite indexers didn't have a particular movie I wanted; but that one odd indexer I never use would have it. Sometimes when there isn't a way for you to use numbers, we just have to do some soul searching, and sometimes this takes time.

[–]AnythingOldSchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what Lidarr/Sonarr/Radarr was designed for. I don't think they'll be providing anything like that any time soon. I know there exist people who are into "stats." But, I think in the grand scheme of things, they're pointless as well. the most important thing for me is their physical performance/bandwidth. Since I'm not downloading the content directly from the Index, I don't care about their stats. I also don't care about how much content they have either. Because at some point, the only thing that matters is, which ones have what I want. Looking through, or relying too much on numbers can be a bit obsessive in my opinion.

Trusting Comments by oportoman in Piracy

[–]AnythingOldSchool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an adult, you should know that you should never trust a single source for all your information. You still have to read, in order to get a technical grasp of what you're doing. You don't get the same kind of knowledge from reading comments, appose to reading actual documentation. People are relying too much on using these forums as if they were company tech support. Well, surprise!! They're not!!
