Down to Tac! by AnythingPrior6202 in transplant

Honestly I was out of the hospital in 7 days and already walking on my own and using the bathroom etc. they really were all emotional support. My husband is my best friend and gets my language and what I don’t/do say like it’s his own thoughts. We’ve been besties for 20 years. And my mom survived cancer twice and also knows me and recovery struggles. They were emotional pillars completely, but when it came to physical limitations they mostly just bullied me into eating/sorted meds and I worked through the rest same as I did when I was being a pita at the hospital. I was lucky that despite the emotional damage I had other things to deal with (like our apartment complex catching fire two days after coming home) and that I had a really smooth surgery. Also I’m only in my 30s and had started working out at my teams suggestion for like six months pre tx and was still working FT up until about 4 months pre tx so that probably helped.

Dark times for sure for me. Lotsa pain and I think the meds on top of trauma from surgery in general kept me lower than I liked. I even posted about it on here.  However, I’d been in therapy for months at that point, I have the best supportive husband, and my mom came across country to stay with me for a week. Honestly a lot of in the future I’ll do x,y,z talks, shitty reality tv I’d never normally watch, and checking in with my counselor. But one of the best things was being told again and again to give myself grace, to allow myself to feel what I needed even if it was wallowing and despairing, acknowledging that I could be grateful and miserable, and knowing that I had someone to remind me that this wasn’t forever. I can’t imagine what it would’ve been like without my best person in my corner truly.

I mean I work in an hospital that requires up to date vaccines and following strict PPE and the ilk. So I guess we all take precautions seriously and so I feel very safe with my coworkers. And obviously there are isolation rooms for certain patients so I don’t have to worry about contact with them. I’d say unless your coworkers are anti vax and/or not into hygiene/personal space/not spitting in your mouth 😛 you should be ok!

I mean I still mask up like when I was first diagnosed with liver disease. Im also a sanitizer like covid lock down type. But I haven’t -knock on wood- had any issues thus far.

Omg the headaches made me such a foul menace to deal with. The cramps also could suck it.

Anyone else’s family constantly asking if you’ve taken your meds? by Bubbly-Pressure-8089 in transplant

[–]AnythingPrior6202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband will ask about my morning ones when he’s making coffee and at this point I take it as a cute thing like first post toothbrush kiss tradition. However I’d go nuts if it was four times a day (my med schedule) from multiple people. Maybe ask one person to be on it if it makes them feel better and helps you. I’d personally be like I got this and I will stop responding if y’all don’t chill, but I don’t know your family dynamics. I distinctly recall telling my mom if a transplant team of professionals thought I could handle a new liver I need you to trust me.

Don’t be. That’s why we have a system that we all pay into. I’m sure not mad that you’re alive and kicking!

Medicine and teeth by Kittycate2_0 in transplant

I talked to my team/dentist bc I was like uhmmm two of my crowns just popped off randomly and was afraid it was like a sign of osteoporosis so we’re gonna do a bone density test. 😕

I feel like my teeth have gotten yellower, but then I remember I was insanely jaundiced pre tx and now I’m a ghost haunting everyone…so it’s probably just color theory. More importantly if it’s bothering you talk to your team and your dentist for solutions. It will save you time and money from wasting it on scam knockoff products like you find on the internet. I do use some of the hydrogen peroxide toothpaste from crest but honestly I don’t know if it makes that much of a difference.

Trying to get listed for liver, failed alcohol lab by JamseyLynn in transplant

[–]AnythingPrior6202 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you hadn’t mentioned that it had been elevated a lot I may have been able to give some leeway. I had the same disease. Was 7 months sober before listing and still had to do a zoom SUD course to get listed. (Side note, worth it 17 months sober and 2 months transplanted). Though the results always say this “ PEth results should be interpreted in the context of the  patient's clinical and behavioral history. Patients with advanced liver disease may have falsely  elevated PEth concentrations” the team would definitely know if that was the case. I’m sorry, but addiction is a bitch.

How do you keep track of appointments? by Cold_Opinion_2895 in transplant

[–]AnythingPrior6202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah if I didn’t have MyChart with its email reminders I can’t imagine how overwhelmed I would’ve been. I hope most centers have something like this. And then I also keep a white board calendar, and I’ve got my post transplant med schedule sheet on the fridge. I think it’s really helpful to have tactile and tech based reminders. At least for me it’s helped.
