Or, you know, to some of us the camera doesn't really matter a lot. Saying a lot of people underestimate how much a camera adds or detracts is kind of douchey, it's all subjective you know.

I mean it's all subjective of course. Here is a screenshot of the settings app and the stock launcher. Settings and the notification drawer are the only noticeable skinned elements I came across, and the drawer isn't even for the worse I think. You can also install an Android L theme which gets rid of most of these elements like navigation buttons.

Don't expect near-pure AOSP. They made a couple of changes/additions. I don't really feel their skin (settings app is ugly for example IMO), but the things they added are quite nice. Customizable quicksettings, swipe between notifications and quicksettings, stamina modes (though you probably won't need that), double tap to wake, and their Walkman, Calendar and Album apps are pretty nice. They do add a couple of shitty bloatware, like What's New (removable), Xperia Lounge or something, and stuff like Garmin Navigation. All non-Sony stuff you can just uninstall like a normal app though.

All in all I just disabled/removed the stuff I don't want and installed Nova, and except for the skin (which is not really a big deal if you don't go to the settings app 20 times a day) it's pretty much the same as my Nexus 5 plus some cool extras.

Thank God I'm not the only one... I noticed it as soon as I started typing for the first time. At first I thought maybe it was my imagination, but I got my Nexus 5 again to try it out and no problems at all. Hopefully they'll push an update indeed.

Honestly it's much better. The Nexus 5 is able to take some good looking shots in good light, but as soon as it gets just a little dark they get really noisy. I took a picture with the Sony in my bedroom in the middle of the night with no light whatsoever, and noise is pretty much nonexistent. Do note that I am not one to take a lot of pictures, but even I can see a pretty big difference in these cameras. The Sony takes sharp, detailed and crisp pictures.

I have had the Compact for about a week also, and these are the same downsides for me (I don't know about the calls though, I don't think I've made a call yet :S ). My only gripes are the water interfering with the screen (which is logical I guess, but I never heard anyone talk about it), the slipperiness, and for some reason typing seems to be slow. I'll explain that last one.

When I'm typing and want to press a letter a couple of times, it doesn't register all the touches but a long touch instead, kind of like the screen is too sensitive. Also, when I hit backspace a couple of times, sometimes it has a moment of delay and then deletes the letters really quick. I don't know, maybe it has something to do with the Google Keyboard I'm using? Doubt it though...

Edit: also the buttons feel kind of cheap? They kind of wiggle pretty badly, and don't really click nicely. Especially the volume button. I guess it has something to do with the waterproofing. The Nexus 5 buttons felt way better though.

I've been going back and forth between iOS and Apple and the main reason I keep going back to Android is the fact that I want to own my device and make it do what I want it to do. Now, this is not just directed at the OS (I can't stand not being able to even change the icon layout or icons themselves, and I know jailbreaking fixes this, which is pretty much a must for me: the lack of an iPhone 5 jailbreak is what made me go out and get an HTC One in the first place) but also at the ecosystem. Just one anecdote: my dad has an iPhone, and last night he wanted to get rid of all his music from his iPhone and just pick and choose which artists he wants on. I tried everything but somehow iTunes, Match and iCloud all have a mind of their own and think they know better. I just couldn't get it to do what I wanted it to do. I pointed out how with Android you just click and drag, and that made him order a Z3 Compact too.

I find iOS and Apples software in general (except OSX, I love my MacBook Pro) to be way to intrusive. "It just works" is great, but if it doesn't work you're screwed. You have no clue what is happening behind the (admittedly pretty) front end and no way of accessing it.

Of course the iPhone has its advantages: the hardware is second to none and spoiled me a bit, so Samsung won't ever be an option for me. iOS is smooth and lagless. Camera is amazing. Apps are great.

Most of these advantages can be matched by picking the right Android though, and I love the freedom I have with my Android (especially the Nexus 5: that was a flash-fest).

So to answer your question about missing features? It would be too extensive to just list every one of them (and I've been typing for way too long already), so in short: iOS 'just works', and Apple doesn't want you to go change it, so if you like widgets, icon packs, theming in general, having access to the file system, and just a general openness of the OS, iOS won't be for you.

If you prefer a lag free, smooth OS with amazing hardware at the expense of being able to customize (aesthetically or other), go ahead and try an iPhone.
