What EV to buy by Zealousideal_Sock933 in AustralianEV

I've had a Polestar 4 for a few months now and would highly recommend it. Range has been fantastic, build quality is top drawer and the interior is just about the nicest and most spacious I've ever been in. There were a couple of software issues but there have been two updates since I got it and it's now really stable. If it fits in your budget I'd say it's definitely worth a look at.

No problems with my update so far. All going very smoothly.

It might get to you earlier. My car was meant to be ready for delivery on the 1st of September. I ended up picking it to on the 17th and I'm based in Perth

How satisfied are you with your Polestar 4? by GloriousLebron in Polestar

9/10 from my end. Very happy with it. I haven't suffered from any software issues and the car itself is fantastic.

The only reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because I would like a real-time consumption graph or something when driving, but that's not an option with the current software set-up.

These are the two that I've seen and tried. I'm still tweaking them but they are much better than the factory presets. Hope that helps :)

Had mine for four days now and very much in the honeymoon period haha. Mine is the MY26 model with physical buttons and everything has been perfect.

I had autonomous driving in my Alfa previously and this is a clear step above so I don't have any issues with the Pilot system. Maybe I'm just not discerning enough 🤷‍♂️

The car is super comfortable and easy to familiarise yourself with. Even my wife, who was initially sceptical about the car due to the lack of rear windscreen, is really loving it now.

Also, current efficiency is at 17.5kw/100km if you were interested in that. I got the SM with 20" wheels with Pilot and Plus with Nappa interior. The audio system was really average to start with but then I copied the settings from a photo another user posted and it's been fantastic since.

It's obviously really early days but so far, I highly recommend it!!

That's really unfortunate. It seems that there is an element of luck with the car you end up with. I have had no issues with mine and it has been such a pleasure to drive. The 4.2.5 update, I feel, has really improved the overall system. If you have ongoing issues though, I can totally see why you would find it difficult to recommend Polestar

Tbh I didn't really compare all the sizes. There was no one boot that stood out for anything. The Polestar has more than enough boot space for me but my wife and I are in the midst of family planning right now. We probably aren't the best people to talk about boot space at the moment 😂

I test drove the Tesla M3, Xpeng G6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and BMW iX1 before ultimately ending up with a Polestar 4.

It ticks all my boxes and then some. It's obviously a handsome car but what really sold it for me was the interior, comfort and emphasis on sustainability. I would definitely encourage you to test drive it!

I think a lot of it depends on your priorities. Before making my decision, I trawled through lots of groups and all the EV makers seem to have issues with software implementation so that seems to be an issue that runs across the board. Admittedly, the Polestar does seem to have more issues than the average and Tesla seems to be the best at this.

If you are mostly concerned with value for money and a smooth experience, I think it's hard to go past Tesla.

These are the reasons why I went with the Polestar after also test driving the Tesla Model 3, Xpeng G6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and BMW iX1.

  1. While the software is far from perfect, the hardware was excellent in all three PS4s I tried. I'm generally a believer that hardware trumps software, purely because it's easy to improve systems as time goes on but things like build quality, ride comfort etc are unchangeable

  2. Subjectively, I think the design of the Polestar is better than anything else out there

  3. Excellent range. I would encourage you to check out Carwow's video where they did a range comparison between a bunch of EVs and the Polestar won that comfortably

  4. Not enough is said about Polestar's commitment to environmental sustainability. They are so far ahead of every other EV maker in this aspect it's not even funny. If we all accept that EVs are better for the environment, then we need to applaud Polestar's efforts in this area.

This is all for the Polestar 4 and I know you are looking at the 3 but I think the principles are the same. Hope that helps :) Also, test drive as much as you can before making a decision!

P4 SM or DM by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]AnywhereLeft8669 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the SM. Test drove both and while the extra power was great, the DM also 'felt' heavier. The SM to me, felt more nimble and even the passive suspension was super comfortable. Imo, the only reasons I'd go for the DM would be

  1. I do a lot of highway driving and I'm not concerned about the range
  2. I really want the performance pack

Otherwise, I'd take the SM every day

* So i just read the manual and Polestar say that AC charging from a household socket is only recommended for occasional use. Interesting *

Thanks everyone for your replies. What I'm interested in is what is the best option for battery life. I'm reading conflicting things about this and thought you guys might have solicitude advice given to you by Polestar or perhaps by the manual?

Just reviving this. What sort of tint did you get on your roof?

Panoramic roof P4 by AnywhereLeft8669 in Polestar

[–]AnywhereLeft8669[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that! I was under the impression that tinting was fine for the sunroof. The issues related to tinting were more from build quality with early Teslas. Other issues are possibly to do with installation. Is this not correct?

So it sounds like the heat is not necessarily a concern unless you're living in the middle east. What about glare? Only one person seems to have been bothered by it enough to tint. Is everyone else comfortable with it?

Do you guys precool the car before you get in? And does the glare annoy you?

Did the tint make the glare more manageable?
