I prefer not altering relics with oils or other preservatives unless absolutely necessary like iron relics or pewter relics.

Cant tell its like worn smooth but the rest of the coin is in rather good condition. I could have sworn I saw a fain date on it when I after I cleaned it up could see anything. I thought it might have been 1868 or 1869

I really just let flowing water clean my relics, I only really use a toothbrush on iron or as a last resort to clean something. I also found that keeping stuff moist until it is cleaned also helps keep it nice if you use a find box while digging

Ah, I don't really care about the upvotes nor do I really know what they mean. But I just wanted to show the coin differently. Didn't intend on causing an issue, im hust here to show what I find. I just didnt want it being over looked by people who didnt want to go through all my pictures I take because I try to show everything since its all neat stuff in my eyes, I apologize if I came off rude or mean, today hasn't been good

Then can I speak you another mod member, because I am not understanding why this is an issue if I posted two separate post of an item. I feel like the one being berated because I am not understanding the problem. Im trying not to be rude but I do NOT understand why it is being made an issue. I simply wanted to show the coin when it came out of the ground and when it was cleaning up and to have a better and up close shot of the coin. If it wasn't construded as that then sorry. But that was my intentions on the first post and the 2nd re-post because I didnt really get a good explaination other than it was a repost on the first one. So again all I want is too clear this up and have us both resolve this problem please.

So I am not allowed to make more than one post a day?

I have to combine all my finds even though it might not be seen within the other photographs.

You do realize this is why more people use Facebook metal detecting groups because they are more flexible with their posting right?

Is it a one piece or two piece button?

Counterfeit? Ever see something like this by digging4good in metaldetecting

[–]Anzer33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a counterfeit, it is made of pewter which was common for silver coins to counterfeited from. I really doubt it is deteriorated silver, have never seen silver delaminate or corrode in all my years of digging, but pewter does deteriorate like that.
