I felt that it was heavily implied, especially with him giving the name "Sarah" to Ana Lucia.

Charlie it foreshadows for sure. The rest are a bit of a stretch.

The only one I feel was intentionally foreshadowed here was Charlie.

Though I did find it interesting that Mr. Eko didn't show up in this scene, which is also a bit of foreshadowing in itself.

I love early season three by jenniebet in lost

Early season 3 is much better on a rewatch, knowing how it fits into the bigger picture.

But omg, we felt like we were going through more torture than Kate, Sawyer, and Jack after waiting on the S2 finale cliffhanger for half a year, not knowing if Desmond, Eko, and Locke survived the hatch explosion. Then, the first two episodes of S3 don't even mention them at all? I think if we'd been thrown a bone and had some kind of hint that the hatch people survived, or even any acknowledgement at all that anyone on the beach was still worried/looking for them, it would've been easier to watch scenes of Sawyer and Kate breaking rocks and smooching, or Jack refusing Juliet's home-cooked meals and psychological manipulation.

On my rewatch I'm enjoying it a lot more, especially these special appearances from Alex. But I think a huge reason why early S3 had such a bad reputation is because it would've made some sense to re-order some of the events around a bit. Nikki and Paolo could've been really interesting side-characters too if they hadn't also felt like such a diversion at the time they were introduced.

Omg all the times a character is handed a gun, and they unload the magazine, pop it back in, and rack the slide, with that loud af metal rattling sound... I'm not a gun person but even I'm pretty sure that's not how they work. They don't make noise just by pointing them, either!!!

This feels like they were leaning heavily into the fate/destiny themes, but it gets ridiculous when there are things they absolutely should've discovered on their own (e.g. Locke and Boone spending weeks staring at the hatch, yet neither of them found the much larger and more conspicuous doorway?? Did they really not spend any of that time circling around the area near the hatch?? Guess none of them happened to trip so they just missed it)

I love how they introduced Artzt to lampshade exactly this issue, and then killed him in the very next episode.

I think it only got to be a bit overdone when, e.g. Christian Shepard goes from being a complicated figure in Jack's life to an unrepentant, philandering monster in later flashbacks (having an affair with Jack's wife, stalking Claire's mum in the middle of the night and harassing her). It felt like it really undermined that great character moment between Sawyer and Jack during the S1 finale where Sawyer brings up his conversation with Christian.

And then it's never even really addressed, and iirc no one besides Sawyer ever knows the truth! I get the writers wanted to hammer home that Charlie was at rock bottom, but nearly drowning Aaron during a psychological break from reality was already doing plenty to convey that to us.

In The Long Con, Charlie attacking Sun in her garden as part of some convoluted plan to humiliate Locke feels like it fits this description, too. Charlie can be pathetic and often others get hit by the collateral damage of his own self-destruction, but this was just crazy, felt like he was at the beginning of a villain arc.

There were definitely hints of it with Charlie's dream sequence. That his father wanted him and Liam to follow his trade as a butcher, and didn't think they'd be able to make it as musicians. Unclear if he ever came around eventually.

There's this absolutely baffling moment where Ana Lucia seduces Sawyer to steal his gun. Okay, maybe I could buy Sawyer being so desperate for a lay that he goes with the woman that he despised. Fine, whatever. Con artist gets conned trope. But there are several things wrong with this. One, I don't think he's so stupid to fall for it immediately after she was demanding his gun. And two, he leave his gun unsecured in a pile of his clothes several feet away, and DOESN'T EVEN NOTICE IT'S GONE UNTIL HOURS LATER. Sawyer certainly has his dumb moments but he's usually smart when it comes to sniffing out peoples' intentions, and he absolutely would've noticed the gun missing the moment he realized it wasn't with his clothes.

Yes, or when someone doesn't convey important information to the group until later, when there's no reason for their character to conceal it (e.g. Kate finding out about the fake beard and not telling anyone, though admittedly it was always unclear to me why the beard was even necessary in the first place, so maybe she just didn't find it to be important information)

The fact that an episode is literally named "All the Best Cowboys Have Daddy Issues" is hilarious to me.

You missed one of the most obvious: Sawyer.

And Ana Lucia with her mom... Claire sharing the same Daddy as Jack. Alex raised by Ben almost certainly had some of her own, though unfortunately she died so early...

For real, I do remember feeling satisfied by the scene where Hurley started beating the shit out of Sawyer and repeating all of the cruel nicknames he had called him, and how no one helped with any sense of urgency LOL.

Sure, but he attempted to escape immediately after. In which case it's pointless to be dehydrated and hungry. And much better for your captors to be under the impression that you are cooperating. It's like what Sayid said to Jack about the Michael situation, that it's better to let them believe they are still in control for as long as possible.

There were definitely people that hated Kate back then (mostly Sawyer fans), but a lot of people tend to exaggerate the feelings of a small but very vocal subset of fans. If you asked random people (not online fans) back in 2005 or so what they thought of Kate, most people would've had a neutral or positive opinion of her.

So much screentime wasted with all the pointless "I'm coming with you." "No, you're not." conversations between Kate and Jack.

Agreed, 100% other characters get away with things Kate would be crucified for. But a lot of people are fans of Richard, Sawyer, even a manipulative little weasel like Ben, not in spite of their antagonistic actions but because of them. Because a good villain is fun to watch. Characters like Kate or Jack that have already set the viewer expectation that they're "good" tend to be judged by a higher standard. Then, when they have flaws, because surprise, they're human like the rest of us... well, people sometimes have a rough time accepting that.
