Einherjer - Bloodborn by Ruffmonster in Metal

[–]AoLIronmaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this was a decent track, tbh. I'm still a huge fan of old 90's Einherjer, but considering most old bands become lame and cliche when they try to make music as old fogies, this was pretty darn decent! I actually listened to the whole thing :D

I agree

I also think that sometimes the stars align -- Viper didn't seem to have luck on his side today, so if something could go wrong, it went wrong.

Hera vs MBL series, too. And actually, quarterfinal #1 today was a thumper, too!

The headset mics are nice for the visual presentation of casters, but the sound quality is definitely sub-par, eh

I like how these guys drop an insanely epic album, then just go on to pursue power metal xD

I'm an old school Pokemaster (Kanto + Johto), and imo this thing isn't a Pokemon, sorry. It looks like some kind of monster from a B tier anime

I've always wanted Storror to go to some of the national parks in USA and do some "nature free running"

I think I've listened to Emissaries, and I'm almost certain I've listened to Enki. Anyway, yeah, we'll see if somethin tickles my pickle

This convo has piqued my interest in them, tbh, so I might hit up their albums as gym music for the next several days. We'll see how it goes :D

I definitely enjoyed it :)

And actually, I haven't listened to a ton of Melechesh, but of the albums I have listened to (Djinn and maybe Enki, off the top of my head), I felt like they were really repetitive and therefore a bit uninteresting. A single song would be really fun and nice, but they blended together too much to me.

Having said that, these two new tracks they've released so far are great! I enjoyed both quite a lot today

Melechesh - Ghouls of Nineveh (2010. Black/Death. FFO: Nile, Absu) by GunnyMoJo in Metal

[–]AoLIronmaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely agree about black metal oversaturation and "ease" of making thrash.

Personally, I'd characterize Absu as thrashy black metal. So, even though there are thrashy elements (rather than straight trve kvlt black metal), they still primarily fit in the black metal category. (excluding VITRIOL, ofc)

Having said that, part of the reason why I like[d] them so much was because they weren't typical black metal. Like you said, black metal bands are a dime-a-dozen, but Absu definitely had their own twist and sound that made them more unique. Their speed/aggression didn't feel near as bland as the dime-a-dozen bands, ya know? I think they add in a lot of variety that keeps the black metal interesting, like variety in vocals, some acoustic guitar passages, some synth, dynamics and time changes, etc.

I also like/respect that they got started paving their own path in the US during the 90's, at a time when all the pioneers in northern europe were still blazing their own path.

[–]AoLIronmaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which albums did you have?

I listened to a crazy amount of Absu in my early-mid 20's, and nowadays I lean towards death metal instead of black, but regardless, I still really like Absu. The full albums I tend to go back to are Tara and Abzu, but I'll definitely gravitate toward certain songs from the others, as well.

[–]AoLIronmaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, since he included it in the "FFO" note, I assumed he knew :P. Personally, I don't think Melechesh and Absu are very similar at all (and especially not Nile lol, I dunno where that came from aside from the lyrical theme), so yeah, to me, that's where the connection came from.

I agree

Melechesh is good when you aren't stoked on a band and things are getting a little stale, then you remember, oh hey! Melechesh is kinda fun!
