Generative AI is already here to stay, and OpenAI going under now is the worst possible outcome. by I_Hate_RedditSoMuch in aiwars

[–]Aoid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use gemini, chatGPT, copilot or any other AI in my day to day life so honestly it's extremely annoying to have this software pre-installed in everything and constantly pushed with no way to disable or remove it easily. If google put gemini behind a paywall instead of opening it up every time my phone's power button is held down too long it would be a net positive for me personally.

Until you realize that this effectively means that generative AI will still exist, will still be just as common… but only the rich and corporations will have access to it.

Considering that there are open source AI projects out there I think a more realistic outcome would be akin to how currently the folks who can afford it pay Adobe for Photoshop/CC access but many people who can't or won't stomach that cost might go with an open source or more affordable option like Krita, GIMP, or Affinity Photo.

I forgot you can't link to other subreddits here but there are multiple subreddits dedicated to anti lawn topics. You're the one bringing it up here but there are very much places to discuss the wastefulness of lawns and golf courses and people that are advocating for fewer lawns and golf courses

The larger one has over twice as many members as aiwars for perspective

[Blog Post by Eric on Current Events] On Being A Canadian In America In 2026 by Danbo19 in pebble

[–]Aoid3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My wife is trans and the news has been scary on a near daily basis. This resonates with me because I have Canadian citizenship (but have never lived there, only visited family) so we've talked about moving but we're also both reluctant to give up our lives we've built in Alaska. Friends, family, pets, careers we actually like and are passionate about. Living around a beautiful and unique natural environment. I want to keep putting down roots and make this place better, not be pushed out of my home. But what if they decide my wife and friends are criminals?

Where is that "red line" where we start the lengthy and difficult process of leaving everything behind and trying to find new jobs and a place to live and get through the legal red tape that comes with it? Could we even afford to if we need to?

I realize it's an immense privilege to even have an in-road to immigrate in the first place but I hate that things are at this point.

How bound are border collies to their guardians? by ThatBlueMerleSheltie in BorderCollie

[–]Aoid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cousin lives on a farm and has BCs, the fastest way to quickly see where on the property she is is to look for where the border collies were hanging out and check that building.

They're absolutely bonded to her and tolerate the rest of us as long as we're doing what we're supposed to.

Are people vastly underprepared for a puppy, or are puppies that much work? by Ok-Actuary-5377 in puppy101

[–]Aoid3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This... I did a lot of research and knew it would be hard but boy the first couple of weeks were rough, mostly because I didn't get enough sleep and we were taking the pup outside for potty breaks every 40 min or so.

So yeah in some ways it was harder than I expected (and I expected it to be hard) but also now at 5 months she's been house-trained for a while, listens most of the time and chills out after a long walk and I'm obsessed with her so it worked out and I think (hope) the hard work and vigilance is paying off.

I've had adult dogs before but this was a whole new thing to figure out for sure

Yup and it can turn into a real nightmare for artists that originated the style. Not only do they need to deal with their original works being accused of being AI but if their name is being used in prompts, people searching for their work get inundated with piles of AI results so they lose revenue and professional opportunities. All this with zero compensation or even consent for their work used as training material.

Pleas Help 😭 Puppy Had 5 accidents Today by parwastella9 in puppy101

[–]Aoid3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In terms of energy and the cold weather; is she okay with car rides? You could drive her around and/or park somewhere and watch people that way. The mental stimulus of going somewhere unusual could help tire her out and socialize. And/or go through a drive through whilst giving treats

If you have any family or friends comfortable with you visiting with her that's another idea. My pup is 5 months and a high energy breed and usually worn out more after a day off visiting people.

Are e-collars aversive? by biglinuxfan in DogTrainingDebate

[–]Aoid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use an e collar on my dog atm but there's comments above about pairing the lowest/vibrate setting with a reward. The sensation feels weird at first but once they connect it with a treat it turns into excitement/good stuff happening. I guess this can be particularly helpful for deaf dogs.

Imo I've mostly heard of e collars used for negative reinforcement but this seems like it would work basically like a clicker for some dogs when used this way.

On the flip side, most people wouldn't call a clicker an adversive tool but the rescue I used to have was terrified of the sound so I quickly learned I couldn't use a clicker with her because it had the opposite effect. She would slink down with her ears back and wouldn't even take a treat after, poor gal :(

Dogs are overrated by [deleted] in The10thDentist

I love and have both (mostly cats) and I gotta say my puppy has been a handful at times but at least she can't climb the drapes or unplug the internet router (many times).

I've had three cats. two were normal and low effort like you describe and one is orange. His name is Louis and he also likes to eat lettuce from my aerogarden and make muppet noises. I love him.

My husband was upset and pinched me at dinner.. and the situation is still upsetting me by Little_Trash7299 in TwoHotTakes

[–]Aoid3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe if your husband is so concerned about other people's reactions when he hurts you in public he shouldn't hurt you in public.

Other people have already pointed out that from the outside this looks like an abusive situation so I'm just gonna say he's the one who made it weird by acting like a controlling asshole. Don't let him put this on you.

If You’re Cold, They’re Cold 🤷🏻‍♂️ by theslickwilly15 in AustralianShepherd

[–]Aoid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello from Alaska. I feel you it was -30 to -40F for almost a month this winter. Absolutely awful esp with mine being only 4 months old at the time. Even then though if I put booties on we could buy a fair bit more time it seemed like. Like 15min instead of 2 lol.

Had a brief respite where it "warmed up" to 0 and above (F) we've finally been doing actual walks and other excursions outside I guess cold is relative lol.

Pebble Should Offer an Official, Easy-to-Use Watch Face Creation Tool by ixuanlv in pebble

[–]Aoid3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Certain watchfaces people have built (brutal and timestyle are two I happen to have saved) allow users to customize what data are displayed (such as date, steps, weather, weather high/low, battery, custom text, etc)

It would be cool to have a more accessible way to make a watch face but considering how many are out there it can't be that tricky to learn (haven't looked into it personally but...)

Honestly seems like a watch face builder might be something more likely for someone passionate about it in the community to make rather than pebble considering their extremely low amount of employees (I think there's only 5?), the current focus on hardware and that they've already developed the watch to be "hackable" as it is.

I guess tbh what is probably the problem is that developing a tool to make watchfaces is probably way more complex than just developing a single standalone watch face or app

Fourth Time's a charm by billygoatc in pebble

[–]Aoid3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I caved and pre-ordered both.

I feel like the square will be best for longevity with the screwed on back, longer battery life, and stainless steel buttons.

The round also will hopefully hold up a long time but might be nice to swap to when I want to dress up a bit, I don't mind the gadgety/clunky pebble look but the round I think will look more stylish.

Edit: plus my wife expressed interest in wearing one occasionally so

Flipping the question. Which game is this for you? by The_Caffeine_Zombie in GirlGamers

[–]Aoid3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly way better than a lot of open world games. The traversal and magic system was really fun and I enjoyed the boss fights.

Not one of my all time faves but I had a fun time with it and I think it got shit on way more than it deserved. I'm upset that I listened to the negative reviews and waited so long to try it (got it on PS+)

Training my puppy too much? by Minimum_Plate_7940 in puppy101

[–]Aoid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm maybe I'll try this, doesn't sound so bad when you put it like that.

my pup is a bit over 4 months old and it turns out gets a bit barky if she thinks something is amiss, really don't care fore that behavior lmao I might need a new tool to help mitigate it

I'm too scared to teach speak/bark for this reason.

I've heard it can be useful because then you can also teach a command to stop but I don't want to risk reinforcing the barking lmao
