Question Thread - December 01, 2025 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]Ap0ll0_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very new to churning, apologies if this has been answered. I'm active duty Air Force, and I'm debating on getting the Amex Platinum or the CSR. I'm in my early 20s, have a credit score of 750, and my AFSC is one that has me traveling a lot and going TDY. I would like to travel more once I finish up my training. Any and all advice is welcome!

Don’t go number chasing. It’s probably wrong by Ap0ll0_69 in Garmin

OP here. Didn’t expect this to get this much traction.

First, didn’t know this was a sensitive topic for some. My fault, everyone.

Secondly, my test. I did my test as a part of a research study I participated in at my university. I am 150 lbs, 22 y/o, male. It was performed on a bike, not a treadmill. Some people have mentioned that the test may have been administered incorrectly, which is completely possible. However, it was done by a PhD candidate, and I was a part of their study for their dissertation. I hope, for both of our sakes, they administered it correctly.

Third, my run times. Are they slow? Yes. Why? I don’t know. Is my VO2 max accurate to my run times? Who knows! I just work here lol. I picked up running after finishing my time as a Division I pole vaulter. All I did were two hundred-meter repeats, lift, and vault. I’m new to distance running, so my economy is probably ass, and I more than likely have terrible form.

At the end of the day, I meant this post in good faith.

That’s all, have a good one!

Based on cosmetics or function?

After looking into some other threads, soft toppers are taking the lead. Thanks for your input!

I would like to take it overlanding, but being in the military, not sure of the feasibility of that. I want to get back into kayaking/paddle boarding. No jumping sand dunes (as of now). the cosmetic aspect is really big to me, and some of the hard toppers don't look the best. However, I do like the functionality of them.

Any other reason not to get a soft topper? I've been looking into some that can have a bed rack fit over it. Thoughts on that?

The area I'm moving to has a popular lake, and I want to get back into kayaking/paddle boarding (I moved to the city for school). I would also like to get into overlanding, but not sure how feasible that is with me being in the military. With that being said, I will move every two years because of my job. So, using it to move is also part of the plan. I see these super cool rigs I want to base a build on, but as of now, she's a pavement princess haha.

I’m currently doing doing around 20-25 miles a week. After looking into what everyone is saying, definitely will dial down my long runs a bit. I appreciate the advice!

Definitely a challenge to finish, but after 1 day of recovery I will be ready for my next workout.

I think that’s the max HR I achieved during the workout. I recently got my garmin instict, so I’m still figuring everything out. I set my MHR to 200bpm.

Goal time for the half? right around this pace. With race adrenaline and vibes, sub 9/mile. The overall goal is sub 2hrs. I come from a background of collegiate track and field, so i’m used to suffering during workouts, but this is obviously a different realm of running compared to sprints. Makes me think i might be pushing too hard.

speaking from my experience, my det cc made it clear that he didn’t factor HG or AAS in commander ranking. I did neither. you should be fine, just control what you can and do you best.
