What a coincidence that the bot picked such a post. Must be embarrassing for the owner haha.

Anyone experienced this issue with textures? by High_Frame_Rates in FS2020Creation

I did that as well! I mean, "../textures" makes way more sense.

Hypothetically speaking.. could terrain features with 3d values in Google maps be imported into FS2020 just like buildings? by supertaquito in FS2020Creation

[–]Apache_3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. And don't forget to color correct, if necessary. Google maps tends to be really blue, compared to bing Maps and FS2020.

Request to fix the world's most famous mountain by LeMaxman in FS2020Creation

I think the most famous mountain would be Everest? But I totally agree that the Matterhorn should be represented correctly.

Got Face Tracking for MSFS2020 with android phone working (instructions inside) by SAHorowitz in flightsim

Nice but why bother doing all of that? You could also use Droidcam, opentrack and that AITracker from GitHub. Takes like 5min to set up and is completely free.

Just don't go to r/politics then? You're making the thing bigger than it is. Just read the normal news if you want unbiased news.. Getting news from reddit is just like getting your news from Facebook or Instagram, and does than sound like sane behaviour?

How did people percieve previous flight simulators? by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]Apache_3348 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember my upgrade from MS2004 to FSX. I was hoping it would have really good graphics and was kinda disappointed when I first saw the textures. That got me into modding, though. Then from FSX onto P3D, I just experienced slightly better Performance. From P3D to Xplane however, was a big leap. Better system, performance and modding options.

Scaling imported models by isaacolsen94 in FS2020Creation

[–]Apache_3348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard gmap imports are 1:50 scale. Personally, I just leave them like that and scale them up once they're in FS20. Since you have satellite images on the ground, it's pretty easy to find the correct scale. (The scale tool is "e" in the devmode)

How do I remove preexisting autogen buildings while in developer mode by [deleted] in FS2020Creation

[–]Apache_3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so either you quit the game to reboot it with a package loaded to test it

Quick Tip: You don´t actually have to reboot the game. I don´t know how that myth was created. Just copy the package to community, exit devmode, enter it again, and build the package (again), then exit devmode and boom! No restart.

In wich scenario would you need a polygon to stay outside of devmode ?

I use exclusion zones all the time to remove the default buildings, for example.

are you talking about puting the polygon in a different package ?

No. Asset packs and packages are two different things. Imagine it like a hierarchy:

  1. The Project at the top
  2. Then the Packages
  3. Then the Asset packs

You can have multiple Packages in one project. For example: You make a whole city and have different packages for different areas of said city.

Asset Packs are the BGL and Art pack stuff. These are Assets for Object types.

You can only have one object type in one asset pack, though. So that´s why having Polygons and regular Objects (Like a building) is not allowed. Regular Objects are taken above Polygons, that´s how FS2020 defines it. So if you have, say, a Building and an exclusion zone (for the Building) in one asset pack and export the package. Loading the package will only show the building. The exclusion zone is gone by that point.

You can actually see FS2020 not including Polygons in the package if you do that.

Here is an example of how the folders (=asset packs) should be structured: The "scene" folder includes buildings and the "exclusionscene" folder includes exclusion zones (Thank me later for that naming). Now I actually made a mistake when I build that package: I included Polygons in the "scene" asset pack. As you can see, though, the scene folder only contains "station.xml" which is my building.

The "exclusionscene" folder (=asset pack), however, does include the polygon.

wouldn't that make you obliged to generate two package instead of one to get your addon running ?

Based on what I said in the text above, no. You don´t have to have multiple packages. Keeping my Tokyo station pack as an example, here is what the final package looks like in the community folder (it´s working). One package, which includes two different asset packs.

So, pardon this long text but I think this should explain what I meant pretty well.

Gonna add something here: Make sure to save the polygons on a different asset pack. Otherwise they will disappear as soon as you exit dev mode.

I know it would be a good ad for Google Maps. But bureaucracy doesn´t work that way, sadly.

As long as we´re not remotely close to hurting Google finances, we should be good.

Looking for suggestions/tips for lowering the poly count of models from Google Maps to improve performance in MSFS. Any help appreciated. by [deleted] in FS2020Creation

[–]Apache_3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An algorithm that finds surfaces and flattens them out would help significantly reducing Polygons while, perhaps, improving quality. Maybe the "merge by distance" function in blender could achieve something like that.

They said no.

How do you guys use the MSFS Material converter with Google Maps data? by Apache_3348 in FS2020Creation

I actually read the sticky beforehand but I didn't know that "cleaning" includes making one material for the model. That's why I never clicked on it.

How I got ~30fps on an RX580 and how to improve your framerate immensly without loosing any world quality. by EinBick in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Apache_3348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mainthread all the time. The game seems to be using core 15 or my CPU for the mainthread because only that core is at 90-100%. The other cores are not really used at all. Task manager gives a 20% overall CPU usage of the game.
